JPDunks4
https://wccftech.com/sony-locked-timed-exclusivity-for-huge-multiplats/ Quote “There are things you will be shocked to find out that Sony is moneyhatting”, the ex-senior Game Informer editor said. “That they are like locking up for timed exclusivity of like "wow, that is a game you are choosing?" Not because it's bad, because it's huge. So I am interested to see where this conversation is going to be in a couple of months because there are games that are widely accepted as multiplatform that Sony is locking up for a little while. So I would not be shocked if they did something insane like that.” https://wccftech.com/third-party-approached-playstation-5-deals/ Quote There isn't a major third party out there Sony failed to approach asking what kind of deals they could work out. Some had content, some had games, some had content and games. It is not like Microsoft was not willing to offer, they just didn't want to pay the asking price, because Sony approached with pretty high numbers in the first place. That "PlayStation Advantage" branding and "Console Exclusive" wording are both going to get a lot of use in the next few years. I've personally never really cared about Timed Exclusivity. I have such a large backlog that I don't care if I have to wait a year to play most games, especially since most of them are single player experiences it seems. I highly doubt any big multiplayer focused game would sign a timed exclusivity deal. Curious to see if these deals are just to stop an Xbox version from releasing, or if they will also block PC access as well. What IP do we think they'd be securing? They seem to have a great relationship with Square Enix, so Final Fantasy is being rumored. Some think maybe GTA6 but that seems unlikely with how huge that game will be. Commissar SFLUFAN
Definitely Final Fantasy XVILMCXVII or whatever the hell number that series is at now.
gamer.tv
I’m always about 6 months behind releases so timed exclusives don’t bother me, however if I owned both next generation consoles but one had more to offer for the same price, it’s a no brainer. Brian
Elden Ring is definitely one.

I think most assumed it was under some kind of Microsoft marketing deal. Could have just been for that show though.
Kal-El814
I thought this thread was going to be about a Sony version of the NES Advantage. Boo.
XxEvil AshxX
Sony timed exclusive = Xbox version with all patches and DLC included... probably also in Game Pass. I can wait.

It's already happened: Godfall (PS5), Tetris Effect Connected (XSX), Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis (XSX), etc. Just to keep it off the other console(s) AFAIK. There's already a ton of grabs on both sides with games that wouldn't need the funding - which is the problem as I understand it. Just no megaton level deals just yet for things other than DLC. I think it's simple to say that backlogs are enough to make up for these deals. But when it comes to games you would actually want to play day one, and expect to, there's no way around it. It sucks. And it's inevitably going to be weaponized to make up for release gaps in the current landscape.

I was more thinking like a CoD or Battlefield. Activision with CoD did a great job introducing Crossplay, and EA I think is committed now to doing the same. I just hope we don't start going backwards due to these deals.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a good example. It took a year to arrive on the PS4, but... I'm not exactly scavenging for games. Unless there's some weird ass 5 year exclusivity deal, then the developer is getting some extra dough and exposure from this and I'll just wait a bit. skillzdadirecta
I wouldn't doubt seeing a lot of the Japanese devs doing this... Capcom, Square Enix, Sega. Street Fighter V is already exclusive, right? I can see the next Monster Hunter being a timed exclusive... or Phinal Fantasy. This isn't the first time Sony has done this so it's not the end of the world.

No. I mentioned it as another exclusive though I have no proof of it outside Yakuza 7 has no PS5 edition.

Quote Sega has revealed it’ll release Yakuza: Like A Dragon, the next entry in the long-running franchise, in the West this November. According to a Microsoft Store pre-order page, it’ll be out on November 12th. Yakuza: Like A Dragon is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on day one, and it’ll be an Xbox Series X launch title whenever that console comes out. Sega confirmed a PlayStation 5 version is in the works for Western audiences, though you’ll have to wait a bit longer for that. https://www.engadget.com/yakuza-7-like-a-dragon-ps5-release-date-160141015.html
