silentbob
I tend to think with the numbers we are seeing that schools won’t go back after next weeks delayed March Break is over. Unless they listen and Vaccinate teachers and staff during that time off, and maybe delay school another week or 2 for it to activate some sort of immune response. I had to apply for EI today because the jobs that were listed were disappearing/being removed because of these setbacks we keep incurring. I’m ok for a couple months but I don’t want to rely on them for money.
Brick
I've been out of work for a year now, and I don't even know where to look to get something. I'm going to end up taking up some random job that I'll hate, and be miserable; I just know it.

I'm going to end up taking up some random job that I'll hate, and be miserable; I just know it. Ive been using Indeed to look, but I know how you feel. I loved that my last job gave me some better financial stability, but it still wasn’t enough that would allow me too move out of my moms place. The housing market is just too fucking insane. Our house is valued by the city at roughly $368,000, but a house at the top of my street just sold last week for over $1million, and are hounded almost daily by realtors to see if we want to sell. Even in our mail today was 6 flyers from realtors looking in our area. I could probably join my sister at Fortinos and work the online grocery order picking, but I don’t want that as a job. I want to work somewhere that would actually interest me. People know here that I like to grow my weed. So I spent the money, took/passed the test and bought my Cannabis Sales licence from the government of Ontario. Applied at 5 shops that were looking, but nothing back from any of them, and most are looking for 1 year now of cannabis selling experience. Then we got this new lockdown, which I think you will see become a stay at home order soon. Like I said I’m ok for a couple months financially, but I hope to find something soon. Although I won’t complain about the time off either, as my daily walks with the dog have been a great mental/stress relief that I never knew I really needed. I wish you the best in finding work out their @Brick 1

Hey buddy, the federal government is doing an okay job (the exception being that borders should be totally closed off), it's the provincial turds that suck! It's very unfortunate that the biggest 6 provinces all decided to open up right when the third wave (variants) was starting. Even so, Canada is has only risen to the same level as the US has dropped to (which is seen as a success in the US). In the end, Canada will end up with (probably) around a 1/3 death rate per capita as the US. It's not a great comparison since the US handled it probably worse than any other country on Earth (Canada should really be trying to measure up to the best nations). Canada has basically had a middle-of-the-road experience. Not good enough, though!

Though I understand the optics of escorting people (with police) to quarantine hotels, it really should have been done. I don't believe that it would have a huge effect on spread (spread has been community based for over a year), but it would have helped. Yes, the spread is community based. However, that community based spread is based on variants coming over the border.

Successive federal governments have done very little to better living conditions within Indigenous communities. The current one is doing better than most, but that's not good enough (and is still falling behind their advertised targets). There is no reason, for example, while schools on Indigenous reserves should receive 50% the funding that non-reserve schools receive. As far as I know, the federal government doesn't provide clean drinking water to its citizens. Isn't that a Municipal responsibility from property taxes? Or, if you are a rural dweller from a well that you pay for yourself?

For sure. There are many factors at play and there is no simple solution, but the current status-quo shouldn't be allowed to continue forever. CitizenVectron
It's definitely a national disgrace and a stain on the country's history. I hope this finally allows for funding to explore the grounds of all former residential schools to find the other bodies, because I guarantee most of them had graves. They didn't care about the "Indian" kids. I also want to see reparations paid out to descendants, taken from both government coffers (since they helped organized and orchestrate the schools), as well as the Catholic Church. To this day the church hasn't really acknowledged what they did. Fuck the Catholic Church.

Catholics needs to start demanding better from Church leadership, but I think most fear that if they say anything bad about the Church they will go to Hell. No, the Pope isn't God, nor are the bishops, cardinals, priests, etc. Start demanding accountability from your leadership! It's that mentality that allows them to get away with this shit for centuries, just like the pedophilia.

That’s fucked. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/laurenstrapagiel/indigenous-residential-schools-canada-graves Quote For more than 100 years, thousands of Indigenous children were sent to residential schools across Canada, taken from their parents in an attempt to assimilate them. These schools, many run by religious institutions, operated as recently as 1996 and were rife with abuse. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, which was formed to examine the legacy of the schools, has identified at least 4,100 children who died of disease or by accident in these schools. It's estimated that the actual number of deaths could be more than 6,000.
