Littleronin
I have seen this in a few head-scratching places. In Fallon the local comic book shop is not only staying open and doing curb side deliveries, but allowing groups in to play Magic and other tournament games. And in Reno (even under threat of losing their business licenses) the retro video game stores and comic shops are staying open.
skillzdadirecta
I said in another post that this will be an interesting social experiment given that this pandemic is happening at the same time that we have three of the most selfish and entitled generations of Americans in history in charge of everything. Boomers, X-ers and Millennials are not known for their selflessness.

EternallDarkness
well entertainment is important (important not essential) especially in these trying times...I'll be running out in the morning to pick up 3 copies of Animal Crossing from BB. But from what I understand BB has instituted precautions, limiting the number of people allowed in the store at a time and the like.

vaxick
Saw on Reddit one employee sent an email to higher-ups politely telling them to go screw themselves and that they're closing their doors tomorrow until other non-essential stores open again. The public is finally seeing what anybody who has worked at a GameStop already knew, they don't give a single shit about their employees. Ghost_MH
At least Gamestop will stop buying used games and hardware for the next few weeks. That'll make everything better.

Chris-
To be fair, supplying the public with Animal Crossing is indeed an essential function.

Spork3245
Rumor has it that Gov Tom Wolf (PA) is pulling GameStop’s PA business license/operating permit and this is slowly being put on all of their doors throughout the state...

Brian
Effective March 22, 2020 – GameStop will close customer access to U.S. storefronts and will process orders on a digital only basis, moving to curbside pick-up at stores and eCommerce delivery only https://t.co/HoVyQ25e8s pic.twitter.com/WmwM6U8iin— Wario64 (@Wario64) March 21, 2020

I would definitely argue that entertainment is essential. People in true isolation without any stimulus can rapidly start developing brain damage. That, however, would be a very poor argument for keeping a Gamestop open in the age of digital entertainment, including Pornhub.

It's not as is if people don't still have access to books/tv/their older games/etc

Now we know that reports of their shittiness were not overstated.
