Rep. Katie Hill to resign amid allegations of inappropriate relationships with staffers

Recommended Posts

I really don't get why her sex life is an issue, as long as she does her damn job. She had a couple of lovers, in what seems was an open marriage. BFD?  I understand why the evangelicals are screaming, they are a bunch of hypocrites, but and news organisation with a pinch of integrity should be refusing to report this kinda shit.

Wat

Trump has multiple sexual assault allegations against him and he the right is defending him. This woman is resigning over a consensual relationship with a female staffer. She also being attacked over an a different consenual relationship with a male staffer that she's refuting. Even if both are true, resigning is silly if no laws are being broken.

Also it's hard to ever tell if there is a situation where there is consent between someone and their subordinate.

Agreed,  but I don’t think we should always assume in every circumstance that it was not consensual. Details matter in all of these situations.

Considering they were in a relationship before she became a staffer, im guessing yes. And if both parties are willing and want it, then thats consent. Harvey Weinstein=Rapist. Katie Hill=Woman who had a little fun in the bedroom and was punished for it by the right wing. The idea that their can't be consent with a subordinate is ridiculous.

She broke house rules, but who cares? Let them slap her on the wrist. Everything was consensual right?

Yeah, it was consensual, and the only people making a big deal of it is the right wing media. They had a sexual relationship, both enjoyed it, good for them. And it started before she was a staffer. So yes, who the hell cares?

I mean Louis CK had his career destroyed for asking permission (and receiving it) to masturbate in front of fellow less famous comedians.

Again, this is different, they were in a relationship before she became a staffer. Louis CK used his power over 'subordinate' actresses to get them to agree. Everything i've read about this says otherwise. They were lovers who then began working together.

I don’t see why she would resign unless she is deeply embarrassed/ashamed or if there’s more to this.

A couple of right wing media outlets got their hands and then published some nonconsensual porn of hers. I'm betting it has more to do with that than anything else.

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but I thought that during the CK stuff that I read he sometimes would randomly whip it out without asking, and sometimes he would indeed ask first.

I was also under the impression that Sarah Silverman was the one woman who didn't care, but others did, right? Maybe I don't remember correctly.

I don’t know if she was the only one who didn’t care, however, I remember her saying something to the extent of sometimes she said sure, go ahead, and other times she said ew, no, let’s just go get pizza.

I mean they said yes, but I underetand the point that he abused his power. Still, if he did then how didn't Hill? I thought consent was not possible in positions of power.

There’s also the notion that the women that talked about what CK did got blacklisted / pressured by his people, had to put up with death threats once his behavior got out there, there’s at least one account of him masturbating over the phone with someone he called where he didn’t ask for permission, etc.

Saying that his career was destroyed because he asked for and got permission to do what he did is a pretty big fudging of the context and behaviors.

I haven't even read anything about this; I was just talking about Louis CK. :p

Well, consent can't really happen when there's an imbalance of power, but the more I read, in this case the other person involved was involved with Hill and her abusive now ex husband before she came to Congress. Without knowing much more about their relationship, this would seem to be ok.

But eyes on the prize: the person who released/is releasing this revenge porn (probably the ex) and the conservative media who circulated it, are the far bigger issue here.

I'm not at all saying what he did was ok. Hope I am not coming off like that. But I do think everyone is weirdly ok with what Hill has done. Though if what apoc is saying is true, that certainly changes things.
