Btw, not sure how many of you are playing on PS5 but apparently the PS4 version via BC doesn't take much of a graphical fidelity hit and locks a solid 60fps vs. the actual PS5 version. I stress "apparently", I've obviously not tried it myself.

Im playing ps5 performance mode, and no problem so far with it.

 

So, as someone who loves souls, but isn't a pro, I went Vagabond. Anyone know how I should build it? Vigor/Endurance, Vigor/Str, str/Endurance?

Well so far so good! I put in 4 hours and absolutely love it. I'm dying a lot but you learn from your mistakes and get better. I leveled up 4 times so far and I'm taking my time in the beautiful first area. 

 

I noticed each tomb/cave you explore early on is suicide in my case. I also got stuck in a marsh with poison and had to reload.

 

The visuals are absolutely beautiful and I'm on the XSX running in quality mode and the framerate is just fine for me. It can have just a bit of a stutter but I prefer more detail. The horse is a huge upgrade early on and makes things much easier, too. 

 

I haven't had the balls to fight a boss yet but I will later today. I'm just taking a break and will be back at it shortly. 

 

I love what I played so far and I hope I can keep up with the difficulty. So far it has exceeded my expectations. It feels so nice to control and combat is great. My only gripe so far is that the camera can get in the way while fighting but I can also lock on and eliminate that issue.

Be careful. Sometimes the lock on is a curse, you can lock on to an enemy and fall off a cliff because you're not paying attention / can't really see.

 

I got my horse last night, if you're having trouble with some fights just get on the horse and attack. It's super mobile. I took down one of those huge giants with the big nut sacks riding a horse.

 

Also, I finally leveled up enough to find this greatsword I found and it's a lot better than the club!

 

And I found the pot friend woo!

Question. Can you put the horse ring on a button layout so that you can call him at will? I couldn't figure that out and have to push the start button, inventory, then use the ring. Its annoying.

Yeah you go to equipment it's towards the bottom I think. Then you push down on the D-pad and it cycles through your quick items and you use it with X.

Alternatively, you can press start>go to your pouch on the right>press triangle>map the ring to your pouch.

There you go. Told ya, these games are actually super fun and satisfying despite frequent deaths. It's just part of the loop especially since they're pure gameplay type games, not story-driven.

 

Enjoy, the exploration, level design and atmosphere in their games is unmatched in my opinion.

only had time to spend about hour and half last night.  skipped the first boss when you get in the open world for now.  hit that first dundgeon with the wolves and then found new grace to start leveling up.

 

went with a vagabond but it feels so clunky right now.  wondering if i should roll a samurai for a bit moer speed

Shit. I was on the outside and went into a simple tomb but when I opened the chest it was a "trap". Now I'm stuck with enemies that one shot kill me in a cave so I ran into this poisonous swamp area. Is there always a way out or can you totally get fucked? There's a site of grace but it won't let me transport out. The poisonous gas slowly kills me so I don't see anyway out. Can this really happen or is there always an answer? 

 

It's not like I can load another save either.

The level stuff killed me more than enemies. The cavern with the flame torches from the network test destroyed me so many times.

 

Also, im still getting used to controls. I'm still trying to use my Focus sometimes lol, and L3 dismounts you, which imo is one serious flaw with the game. Otherwise I'm in love.

Afaik you can always travel to another point of grace. You can leave a dungeon any time.

This happened to me, I also didn't realize you could fast travel. What ensued was a lively jaunt back from the inner reaches of hell, and a truly fantastic gaming experience.

This is a once in a generation type of open world game. The views, the discovery, the exploration. The game is absolutely incredible. I don't know what else to say.

 

There is definitely a problem though. A memory leak or something. Because even in performance mode on PS5, after a while, framerate atarts dropping. Its fine when I restart the game for another hour.

@Keyser_Soze is a waifu. I went for a female vagabond randomly.

 

you have to choose bloodyhell. The class benefits from either sword and shield, greatsword, or halberd/pike/spear. I am going halberd in this one. I am forcing myself to do it because greatswords are just really good. Just remember if you aren't having fun the classes are more of a what do you want to be able to use at the start. So if you want to mix in magic for example you can. Or if you want to switch to katanas u can.

You can't fast travel from inside a dungeon to a state of grace that is outside the dungeon but you can go out the door you came in!

The area I was trapped in had a point of grace but wouldn't let me travel because the transport areas were x'd out. The lady from the beginning helped me get out of the area.

 

Also, since I'm such a noob to this genre,  how do you know you are making progress? As in, how do you advance the game other than leveling up?

I mean, everything is progress. It will not hold your hand, the point is exploration. Go places till you die, then go back.

I just killed that caravan with the giants pulling it. Got a greataxe I can't use yet.

God why couldn't my new puppy break my work PC in some way. I don't want to be taking calls. I want to explore the lands between and git gud. 

 

I am disappointed in myself. Can't beat the first story boss. My build is as always a glass cannon but it's early still so more glass then cannon.

I don't think its quite sekiro, but its definitely DS3, just smoother and more comfortable to play. 

I was out killing giants, I panicked and transported to grace when I realized I had 8000 souls, on top of dozens of golden runes I picked up needed to be used.

I'm just wandering around trying to level up at this point. But I do wish they directed you to advance the game. Unless I'm missing it.

Make it either a quality build where you level strength and dex up to 40 and can use almost any weapon in the game or wait til you find a weapon you really like and focus on strength or dex depending on which it is. So if you find some huge hammer you like swinging around, focus on strength. If you find a spear or straight sword or something you like, focus on dex. Or you can do both and be a jack of all trades and use any weapon. 

 

Your main stats will be Vigor since you're a melee character you need some health, endurance fortunately is back to leveling both stamina and equip load so raise that so you have more stamina and equip load especially if you want heavier weapons and armor. Then strength or dex for whatever weapon you are using. You may have to point a couple points into some stats to meet requirements. Like say you decide to go dex, there might be a shield you want or a sword that requires like 16 strength, make sure you hit that.
