This isn’t star wars, its about gameplay and challenge, not the story. Take Bloodborne for example, my favourite game of this generation. I doubt 90% who played it know or care about the story or whats going on around them (and bloodborne has an incredible story).

I’d have to disagree. Continuity is just as important to me as the gameplay. Backstory should be included in the original source material of a story. Prequels are just unnecessary and a waste of time in my opinion. But to each his own

But not in souls type games. For me its all about the combat, the puzzle pieces you have to learn to beat enemies and bosses. I love a good story, but there could have been zero story in Demon Souls/bloodborne/sekiro, and I wouldn’t have liked them any less. im still working on beating Sekiro. Bloodporne
Started giving this another shot last night considering it's on PS+ and I've had enough distance from the original to cool back down. The combat definitely is as addictive as ever so just based on that, I'm back in. But yeah, there really is zero change in the weak level and encounter design, it's kind of crazy. Either way, I'm digging the formula again after some distance.
Bloodporne
Update: What the hell were these devs smoking? How many sub-systems can there be in one game!? I beat Nioh and a few bosses in, this game feels overwhelming and confusing as hell. You'd think when they need essay-length explanations of yet another weird parry system, they'd go...huh, maybe this is getting a bit much? Also this is way harder than the first one and frustrating with how much crap you have to keep track of. It's like they heard what my gripes were and did the exact opposite. The core combat is still great but what a messy sequel.
Zaku3
Oo snap forgot about Nioh and KT. I was getting a bit down about when a new Elden Ring will be out but KT coming through with the Souls like.

If you have PS+, Nioh 2 is part of the basic tier this month.
Zaku3
Have em on PC just gotta hook up the PC to my OLED. I can play 1 now and wait for a new card to max out Nioh 2. Hopefully.
Bloodporne
I'm actually baffled by how much I'm liking it AND think it's a hot mess all at once They literally doubled down on every weakness of the original and just threw way more stuff on top. Yet I can't stop playing this damn game much like the original. For every time I wanna strangle the devs for making some of the cheapest enemies this side of an 8-bit game, there's a moment when the extremely complicated combat clicks and you feel like a rocket scientist just for stringing that shit together. Definitely one step forward, two steps back kind of sequel for me. If they only could've found a way to streamline some of this insane bloat a tad, it would've been sublime. And yet, the combat still fucking rocks when you can remember the finger gymnastics to pull it off.
Bloodporne
I really just want to do an entire Nioh 2 roast thread at this point. I'm at the 3rd main area and it's just baffling that this game has zero improvements in regard to the parts that were actually bad in the first one. It does seem strange - I loved Nioh 1 (and its DLC), I haven't played 2 yet, it sounds very intimidating. On Metacritic scores for both games are about evenly matched whether its critics or audiences, so not sure where the disconnect is, it was highly rated like the first game when it released. I'm honestly only playing it because Nioh's core combat with the Ki Pulse is fun and all but having just reached the 3rd area, the absolutely asinine bloat of the loot, sub-sub-sub-sub-sub systems on every damn thing and the baffling recycling/repetition already has me burnt out again. 20 minutes ago, Greatoneshere said: It does seem strange - I loved Nioh 1 (and its DLC), I haven't played 2 yet, it sounds very intimidating. You should check it out if you have PS+, it's free anyway. I'd be curious to see what someone else into the first one thinks. I think my frustration is similar to how I feel about Dark Souls 3. It's by not means a bad game, not at all, and if I hadn't played the original I would feel totally different. But I did and it's somehow entirely too similar yet expanded in ways that I find superfluous. Also the levels of recycling just makes the level design even more boring than the original. Let me just put it this way...they added four different "Burst Counter" types. That's four different parrying modes you can go into when in Yokai form and requires yet another button juggling input when enemies flash red. Then they added enemy soul cores which are enemy skills which can be assigned to your Spirit Guardian...which also have their own stats, special attributes and skills and are triggered by more finger gymnastics but only when your bar is full. Burst Counters also have their own skill trees! To make all that more user-friendly, all of it has baffling names you're sure to never remember like BURST COUNTER: FERAL vs. BURST COUNTER: PHANTOM I can't help but feel like the timeline went Souls -> Nioh -> Sekiro -> Nioh 2 with Nioh 2 just going hold my FUCKING beer we can make this so goddamn complicated you need a PhD to even parry! Added sub-systems: 8,000 New enemies: 2 1
