Also rumour is that Ryan Gosling is being considered for Yueh, which is odd. I'd never have considered Momoa for Idaho, but I love it the more I think about it. As for Gosling for Yueh, I can see it given how reserved Yueh is as a character and given what the character ultimately does. I'd like to see that. This is a Denis Villeneueve Dune guys. If this movie actually happens, we may actually get a version of Alejandro Jodorowsky's Dune, but in 2020 and modernized by Denis fuckin' VIllenueve. I can't wait to see what this looks like. Incendies is still arguably his best film. The only thing that will make this movie suck is potential studio interference. Barring that, given they made the wise decision to split the dense narrative into two films, I fully expect this movie to be insanely good. It's just a shame there is no guarantee we'll get a part two. Fortunately, Denis VIlleneueve is also a producer (not an executive producer or co-producer, but an actual producer) on the film, so I imagine that gives him more control over the film, so I'm not too worried about studio interference. He's already got a great cinematographer (Greg Fraser (Killing Them Softly, Zero Dark Thirty, Lion, Rogue One)) and the great editor from Sicario, Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049 (Joe Walker) and the cast is absolutely stacked. All this talent would have to try to make it bad. But, there is always that chance, I have to grant.

I guess no one got the memo it's a two-part film? I don't disagree with the substance of the tweet that Dune would absolutely be better served by a Game of Thrones-level prestige TV adaptation, but if we have to get films instead, this is the best case scenario (Denis Villenueuve is a huge fan of the original books and would like to adapt all of them in theory if the movies do well). My only worry is that we won't get the second part if the first doesn't do well since they aren't shooting them back to back.
Kal-El814
DV is the right guy for the job and I’m excited about the movie(s) but I think that sentiment is still right. But I won’t let perfect be the enemy of good here.

One movie, no way. Two movies? Could be done well, but it'll take a lot of skill and work to pull it off.

fuckle85
So fucking hyped for this. Villeneuve is killing it in the sci-fi genre and is a fantastic visual director. I've never read the books or saw the previous movies so I'll be going in knowing absolutely nothing about it.
Greatoneshere
Well THIS is very interesting news: https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/06/10/dune-reboot-expands-with-spinoff-streaming-series-dune-the-sisterhood I hope it adapts more of Frank Herbert's six books, and Denis Villeneueve co-writing and directing the pilot is promising. I don't know what to think of this yet.

Greatoneshere
Dune getting adapted, much less adapted by this writer/director and cast, just to be clear, is a literal dream come true for me, being a huge fan of the Frank Herbert books and hating the Lynch adaptation, being terribly sad Jodorowsky's version never got made (but at least we got the documentary), and mildly enjoying the SyFy 2000 miniseries version. I not only hope the movie comes to fruition, but at least the second part gets made. This random TV series being announced with Denis Villeneueve's involvement is icing on the cake. Lynch version is such dog shit. As a huge David Lynch fan, I can't wrap my head around fans of his excusing it as some masterpiece, which I have actually seen. I mean, he's publicly disowned the film himself, so he knows it's bad. He hated the experience of making it and it's also the reason he's never done anything close to a blockbuster kind of movie since.

I grew up on coked-out, bizarro Hollywood 80's "kids flicks", it's not like I needed logic or even a plot in my Fantasy.

The rest, written by others after Frank Herbert's death, you can completely ignore.

I'm not sure what's kept me from it but I always have a giant stack of book backlog and I'm not always in a reading mode. I've been making my way through Albert Camus' bibliography as of late. It's somewhere on the endless list though...
