Pikachu
https://techcrunch.com/2018/12/27/epic-fortnite-3-billion-profit/ Quote Epic Games had as good a year in 2018 as any company in tech. Fortnite became the world’s most popular game, growing the company’s valuation to $15 billion, but it has helped the company pile up cash, too. Epic grossed a $3 billion profit for this year fueled by the continued success of Fortnite, a source with knowledge of the business told TechCrunch . . . TwinIon
Stumbling into the world's biggest game is sure helpful when it comes to making money. Hopefully they're able to put that cash to good use and turn out some interesting products.

So far they've simply cancelled other projects and diverted those resources to more Fortnite development. What they really need to be prepared for is the inevitable crash as kids move on to something else.
Rodimus
I wish they didn't put all their eggs in the fortnite basket and use this profit to take some risks in other game projects. Of course still not abandon the golden goose.
Mercury33
cool, but what did they Net on all that. Because gross doesn't mean shit unless you netted a large profit as well.
Commissar SFLUFAN
So this is how Epic can "bribe" developers into Epic Store exclusivity!

It makes sense that their first priority would be to keep it going, and although I don't play, I think think they've done a pretty good job at that. If they have started funding a bunch of new games or decided to use some of that cash on crazy experiments, I doubt we'd know of them yet. Biggie
I played Fortnite for about a week. Had a blast but then was over it like that.

If cancelling Paragon and Unreal Tournament and buying exclusivity of 3rd party games while riding the Fortnite wave is any indication, they won't be funding new games. DarkStar189
Can't blame them. Ride that shit out while you can. Kids are crazy about Fortnite and V Bucks. Seems like a waste of time to me considering how many amazing games are out there. But if that's what the kids want
Mercury33
Lol people in this thread keep using the word “kids” as if there aren’t a substantial number of grownups playing it too.

I know lots of adults who play it for fun because they prefer it over PubG. You’re on a roll with this whole being wrong thing 👍🏻

skillzdadirecta
I called it a year ago that not only would Fortnite surpass PUBG in popularity but that it would be a big hit... and of course I was shouted down by a lot of dudes on this board
