SaysWho?
https://wccftech.com/sony-exec-ps4-pro-necessary-evolution/ On single-player games: Quote While 2018 was indisputably a big year for Fortnite, it was also a year which saw us really act like a publisher and focus on our exclusive titles whether it was God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit or VR titles such as Astro Bot. Buzzwords are one thing, what our players are demanding is another. There’s still a huge audience for games that offer the best in single player narrative with stunning gameplay, as witnessed by the enormous popularity of both Spider-Man and God of War in this year’s charts. I was just at the Golden Joysticks – God of War won five! On the Pro: Quote The mid-lifecycle upgrade of PlayStation 4 to PS4 Pro is a good example of necessary evolution. In enabling the community to upgrade mid-lifecycle it has allowed our most engaged players an even more immersive experience that compliments the latest advancements in TV technology. We’ve found that around one in five PlayStation 4s sold has been a PS4 Pro since it launched and around 40 percent of these have been from existing players upgrading so it’s definitely having a positive impact on the industry as well as on our players. I expect Sony and MS to continue with the mid-gen refresh, which has also helped keep sales very high and interest in gaming at an amazing level this far into the generation. I also don't mind multi-player whatsoever (I can imagine Horizon 2 having some epic co-op modes available for, say, unique giant robots or an arena full of enemies), but I love playing games with a strong single-player component and I that it looks to continue into the next generation. Though as I said, I LIKE a lot of multiplayer. @madmankevin played a lot of Resogun/Alienation multiplayer (and played some with @Anzo and @ByWatterson), and if they introduced a co-op portion of Horizon 2 for certain bosses or arenas or something, it would probably be fantastic. But I like my strong single-player. I'm glad Rockstar's games, even with the online component, have a meaty single-player to them.

Bloodporne
Helping people in Dark Souls is as close to "playing multiplayer" I've probably ever gotten since the couch Street Fighter days or whatever when I was a kid. Every time I've tried to get into multiplayer online gaming, I disgustedly turn it off after an hour.

I return to that game almost yearly to go through it and help people in Chalice Dungeons. I love that kind of in-and-out multiplayer. And then once you're finished, you can just keep helping people in the dungeons by searching for a game. With Bloodborne getting on PS+ this year, I hope it opened it up to more people playing long-term.

I'm not into PvP whatsoever honestly but I love helping people out and doing bosses over and over until I'm a total machine. Chalice Dungeons sure have their problems but I'll be damned if I didn't spend endless hours in them helping people with those vicious-ass bosses. I've also spent an obscene amount of time in Bloodborne re-playing and re-playing. See username.

Paperclyp
Multiplayer games have probably provided me with the highest highs from video games. I play more single player now partially out of necessity (kids, careers, distance being the major limiting factors). I think competitive games with friends who are near your skill level OR well made cooperative experiences are just the bees knees. I didn’t like the push away from single player altogether though. And I’m tired of the Destiny / Anthem trend of game making.

Don’t get me wrong, I probably have played more single player games by a margin of like 90/10 in my life and I love them. But when I think of the absolute hardest I’ve laughed or something like that when playing a game, it’s been with friends (usually in the same room) playing multiplayer. Fuck yeah, couch co-op Goldeneye, my brother weeping whenever I picked Blanka because I kicked his ass in Street Fighter, me admiring the bump-mapping in Halo 3, the weird Bloodborne co-op gestures and someone committing suicide immediately following the death of a boss, and some guy playing carnival games in Killing Floor 2 instead of helping us fight enemies... shit, great laughs man. The Halo 3 story btw: The 360 was my first next-gen console at the time, and I got it for Halo 3. I played campaign co-op with my bro and a couple friends, and because it was my first next-gen console, we were walking over a bridge over water and rocks and there was a mountain with some impressive textures or bump-mapping (I assumed bump-mapping at the time). So while the team was walking away, I just stopped and went, "Wow, that mountain looks impressive. Guys, look at the texture work at this thing." And then there was silence, but I kept admiring it, "Seriously, I don't remember this kind of work on last-gen consoles. This mountain looks REALLY good." And my brother I think was fighting someone up ahead and was like, "Dude, shut the FUCK up and get over here!" And I was like, "But this looks REALLY good," and then our fourth teammate stops beside me and goes, "He's right. This does look pretty good." The other guy was silent, and I found out later he muted his mic to laugh his ass off at the fact that we were drooling at a fake mountain. It's probably way funnier in the moment, but that was my favorite memory of the campaign. Bloodborne has given me some great multi-player memories, though. Tons and tons. Actually, Defiled Amygdala was my favorite Co-Op-ing after I solo'd that absolute motherfucker of a boss. It literally took me a week of trying every evening...so probably 50+ tries easy. I don't know what kind of magic formula Hidetaka Miyazaki has concocted that allows him to keep me engaged, it's insane. Basically most other games outside of Souls titles I would've fired against the wall after having to try a damn boss more than like 10 times tops. Anyway, those deep, deep Chalice Dungeons were the most amazing challenge areas I've ever seen in a game. It's an exercise in tedium getting there unfortunately unless I guess you do the dungeons along with the game's difficulty curve so the first few aren't a boring joke.
