I just rewatched The Wailing for the third time and man, I forgot who recommended it here again but I've grown to really love that movie. I'm still not sure I follow its logic 100% but there's something about that that makes it extra tense later on into the film. I want to say it was me since I'm a big fan of the film but I believe we have a few South Korean film aficionados around here. Also welcome to the party with Carnivale!

Good premise, great mood, good performances. Finale just didn’t quite feel right. Def worth checking out though.

"I'm a Cyborg, But That's Okay" is also good and skipping that would be bad too. I do agree he was intentionally skipping Oldboy. And then yeah there's The Handmaiden. So he essentially ignored 4, not 1, Chan-wook Park films.
Zeluge
JSA, Oldboy and The Handmaiden have all been viewed within the last year or so (a rewatch in the case of Oldboy), recent enough to distinctly recall. Stoker made the cut because I hadn't seen it since its theatrical run 9 years ago. I'm a Cyborg But That's OK isn't available in any streaming capacity (in the US, at least) and the maybe-region-free bluray is 20 bucks, a little too rich for a barren blind buy. I'll catch it sometime down the road, when availability opens up.

And nice, you covered all the films then.

Also, my friend got flagged for that several years ago, so that's added to my already-existing hesitation about such methods.

The problem is the highest quality versions of most films are the pirated versions in my experience. Streams will always be inadequate in terms of visual quality and compression compared to a proper, already downloaded file. I'm big on that though, I know I'm in the minority. Greatoneshere
With the third weekend of October now having passed, my wife and I got through a bunch more horror films, see the second bracket below (first bracket is from the first and second weekends): A Quiet Place Part II (2020): 7.5/10 The Shallows (2016): 7/10 Halloween (1978): 8/10 Halloween (2018): 7.5/10 Halloween Kills - Extended Cut (2021): 7.5/10 (people hated this? I fucking loved it) Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022): 7.5/10 (very clever, cutting satire of Gen Z'ers) Candyman (1992): 8/10 Candyman (2021): 8/10 Hellraiser (1987): 8/10 Hellraiser II: Hellbound 8/10 Hellraiser (2022): 7.5/10 The Thing (1982): 8/10 The Thing (2011): 7/10 Werewolf By Night (2022): 7.5/10 A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984): 7/10 (not as scary as I remember but the film is very well made and the premise is aces) Halloween Ends (2022): 7.5/10 (the film is mostly reviled but like with Kills I appreciated this did something different - not sure what fans are wanting here) Nope (2022): 8/10 (slickly made, shot, acted, and scored; not really scary but a very interesting film, not as esoteric as people made it seem) Open Water (2004): 7.5/10 (better than I remember it, the film is pretty well made for being in the cinema verite style and definitely tense) Night of the Living Dead (1968): 8/10 (a classic that absolutely still holds up today, looked gorgeous in 4K) My wife and I will be skipping A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 but we will be watching the third one, Dream Warriors, since that one is actually good (all the others, including the remake, are bad). Hoping to get to Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead as well.

I had totally forgotten to mention that one - we'll be doing Dream Warriors and New Nightmare, that one is good too. Just re-checked, the consensus on all the others is real bad. Makes sense given Wes Craven and Frank Darabont co-wrote Dream Warriors and Wes Craven came back to write and direct New Nightmare.

SimpleG
Return Of The Living Dead 4k Fantastic 80's horror, its bleak and nihilistic and it does such good job of encompassing that decade. The film has never looked better and it has one of the best soundtracks of all time Dawn Of The Dead 4k The Argento Cut Romero's 2nd part in his trilogy. I usually prefer the Cannes cut, it does a better job of filling out the characters but the Argento cut is better edited and the Goblin soundtrack is so top tier. Second sight did a bang up job on the 4k.

CastlevaniaNut18
Finally got around to Top Gun Maverick. That was masterful and exciting as hell. Much as I dislike Tom Cruise, I gotta give that one a 10/10. Fun fact: My husband, despite being born in 84, never saw the original Top Gun. He finally watched it on the return flight from Seattle last month.
EternallDarkness
One of my sister's wanted to see Ticket to Paradise. Clooney was hilarious and while I'm not the biggest fan of Julia Roberts (her damn mouth is just TOOOOOOOOO Damn big....would have preferred someone like Sandra Bullock, but even so I enjoyed the movie way more than I thought I was based on the trailer I only vaguely remember seeing like 6 months ago Though I will say I found it hilarious when someone in the movie actually says something to the effect that Roberts looks like a horse. Oh and Billie Lourd's characters was great as well. Then this evening the family got together for dinner and afterwards my sisters, mom, and I ended up watching Fall. We pretty much talked through the entire thing and I lost track of how many times we called the characters a bunch of dumbasses but it was fun time if not a particularly good movie.

I'm in the minority but The Hobbit extended editions I find to be better than the theatrical editions. Go longer rather than shorter since the films aren't trying to just adapt The Hobbit. The story of Azog and Thorin's familial histories are better explained, and you get to spend more time in Middle-Earth, and get more LOTR pseudo-fan fiction like we've been getting with The Rings of Power, which is awesome. Seeing things like the tombs of the nine and the Necromancer in the East are great.
