elbobo
Us The horror parts were good, performances were fine all around. Not a big fan of explanation of what is going on, with these kind of movies it is either best to leave it completely vague 'black magic" or you have to explain every detail, this movie took an in between. 7/
TheLeon
Wild Rose - 4/5 While it’s not particularly groundbreaking material (working class young woman wants to escape from her problems and become a star) the lead performance by Jessie Buckley really elevates it. elbobo
Wolf Warrior 2 I will admit my exposure to modern Chinese films is limited but after watching this and Wandering Earth it seems like they are straight making US action flicks from the 80s/90s but turning them to 1000. If Wandering Earth was their Armageddon Wolf Warrior 2 is a combo of Rambo 3 and Commando, complete with the equivalent of Reagan-era flag waving. The action is ridiculous, if it is the good kind of ridiculous will be up to your tastes but just as an example the hero catches an RPG in a mattress box spring and tosses it aside and the open fight scene takes place underwater. Wu Jing is a solid leading man action star.
SimpleG
Witchfinder General - AKA The Conquer Worm Vincent Price period piece thats based very loosely on a real life witch finder named Mathew Hopkins. Price plays Hopkins who is hired by small towns in 1600's England to interrogate and execute witches . The theme of the film still feels very relevant today, religious fanaticism , corrupt politics and the horror that those in power can get away with. The gore is well done for the late 60's and the violence is unflinching . This maybe Prices best film and his best villain. Video- The blu ray looks ok, it some parts it looks fantastic and in others there is a lot of noise and a lot of grain. The version that comes in the Price collection is better but is OOP and runs anywhere from $300 to $400. It was also the only blu ray version to be released in the US , I had to import this version. Audio 2.0 only, no issues other a few wierd sounds but that could just be my copy.

TwinIon
Stuber - 2/5 - Short, light, and occasionally funny, Stuber never really lives up to the comedic potential of either of its stars.

There's always that peasant-hating, glove-slapping villain in these types of movies and Vincent Price takes the cake in this one with his sheer monumental cuntery. Also, the opening is really memorable and harsh. I also love Reggie Nalder as Albino in Mark of the Devil. Huge asshole too.

gamer.tv
From the last few weeks: The Nun - 3/10, pile of boring shite. A Star is Born - 6.5/10, soundtrack and the plot I enjoyed, but it was equally cringe inducing at the same time Green Book - 8.5/10, felt like an Oscar baiting script, I don't care, really enjoyed it and the fact it ended on a happy note Moneyball - 8/10, I love sports films, regardless of whether I enjoy the sport or not. Although not the pinnacle, it was still well worth a watch.
Zeluge
Spider-Man: Far From Home Shockingly incompetent. A horrendous script that deals in a substantial degree of character assassination, among other things (pacing, logic, National Lampoon-esque hijinks and miscalculated humor.) I made a spectacle of myself from laughing so hard at this ... thing. A late-game action sequence almost makes it worth it to sit through the trainwreck. My friend is very excited that they've now brought this down to the level of Venom, leaving room for a potential crossover. It's really the best direction to go from here. I always respect your opinion but this is quite the hot take. Can you go into more depth? My wife and I saw it recently and we both enjoyed it. It was fun, I mean, it's Spider-Man and the MCU, I'm not expecting Schindler's List.
Bloodporne
Incendies - 9/10 I've been meaning to dive into Denis Villeneuve's pre-Prisoners output for a while now because well, he's probably my favorite currently active director, and once again was not disappointed. Despite some of the rather staggering amount of coincidences feeling far-fetched in the story's finale, I thought this was an incredibly well-crafted, memorable and emotional film overall. Half of a point was simply deducted for the use of Radiohead's music, whom I hate. Something I truly appreciated was the relative coldness, or matter-of-factness, of the atrocities on display. No dramatic nor heroic score to tell the audience how to feel, I appreciated that in this grim context. Anyone who has seen it: I assume this was essentially Lebanon? Seems to mirror that conflict after some more reading.

I thought it was commendable that he managed to make a quite convoluted plot, and to Western audiences probably relative unknown setting, very easily understandable. It could've devolved into a bloated mess rather easily I think. And that's with subtitles on top of it. It was actually shown to me by a French-Canadian girl who insisted I watch it with her this weekend, despite it being on my list forever. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 is the best film in the series. The rest are mediocre or bad, but that one was good. Unfortunately, Mockingjay - Part 2 shits the bed, but Part 1 was really well directed, pushed the characters in complex directions, and had some really interesting themes it wrestled with. @gamer.tv, did you skip The Hunger Games: Catching Fire? It's not good - it's better than the first The Hunger Games (despite being 2.5 hours long, Jesus, and being a complete retread of the first film) but you didn't mention it so I'm just checking.
