No. I think the impact of the pandemic will push both sides to come to a deal. Baseball got so much bad press with the pandemic negotiations I can’t imagine doing that again so quickly. Then again Manfred hates baseball so maybe
Guest
A great thread on why the union is fighting so hard for changes like the service time fixes. The short version is the average MLB players who makes it to the show for a few seasons has a net loss because of the pitiful pay structure in the minors. They also are now 27-28 years old with no career advancement as trying to play pro ball is a full time gig. Any deal will leave the top of the business players fat, it is the other 90% of players who get to the show and are done in just a few years that NEED these changes. Props to the big dogs for standing in solidarity with all those guys we never hear of or quickly forget

Now he wants to get all the money. Actually, the situation seems to be that his agent is about to be decertified by the MLBPA because the agency’s parent company, WME, has become the owner of something like 40 MiLB teams. But he also wants ALL the money.
Guest
I mourn the loss of my guy Carlos Correa, but I’m quite excited about his replacement, Jeremy Peña. Kid is gonna be a star in 3 years or so.

All they have to do is put them in but with some type of notation about the steroid era. I mean it’s not like these guys were scrubs before they starting juicing. They were going to be HoFer’s regardless.
Guest
Just now, Biggie said: All they have to do is put them in but with some type of notation about the steroid era. I mean it’s not like these guys were scrubs before they starting juicing. They were going to be HoFer’s regardless. Literally make a wing of the hall about the PED era with all these guys who came up during that time. It's a museum FFS. It's extra ridiculous that Ortiz is in on the first ballot, and literally the greatest player in baseball history and probably a top 5 pitcher of all time are out. It goes to show that being a likable person to the voters is important. It is 100% why A-Rod has spent the last 5 or 6 years trying to rehab his image publicly. Bonds and Clemens told everybody who cared about their PED use to pound sand.
Brian
Why let Ortiz, a steroid user that was caught, in and not let superior steroid players ,Clemens and Bonds, in? Baseball can’t stop punching itself in the nuts repeatedly.
thewhyteboar
The Hall of Fame is the story of baseball. How can you tell the story of baseball without Clemens and Bonds? The Hall already has known cheaters in it. The HOF voters have their heads shoved so far up their asses.

Guest
Yup. It’s a museum of the game that doesn’t include guys who own close to, if not wholly, untouchable numbers in iconic categories. A sham.
Brian
Honestly, the MLBPA should add Barry Bonds to the HoF as part of their negotiating stance.

Amazatron
HR leader or not, the guy put up a season where his OBP was .609 and his OPS was 1.422 and that may not even be his best season. Just try to comprehend that for a second. There's been one over 1.100 OPS full season in the last 10 years.

Guest
Yesterday a baseball Twitter joke, where a user posted a video of what was actually Mike Trout in the batting cage but asked people for tips on helping his kid get better. A 17U baseball coach responded with a pretty strong rebuke of Trout’s swing, and hilarity and then typical toxic Twitter dunking ensued. Trout saw it and was obviously initially amused by the comment, and followed the thing only to see the thing get pretty mean. So Trout did this Good for him

thewhyteboar
"You know, it's interesting," Manfred said. "We actually hired an investment banker, a really good one, actually, to look at that very issue. If you look at the purchase price of franchises, the cash that is put in during the period of ownership, and then what they've sold for, historically, the return on those investments is below what you'd get in the stock market. Or what you'd expect to get in the stock market - with a lot more risk." Rob Manfred and the owners think you are stupid.
