Bloodporne
So my birthday is coming up and my gorgeous and cool-as-fuck wife may be planning on getting me a Switch by the sound of it. While I massively appreciate that and think it's great, I don't have the heart to tell her there isn't really anything out right now that I particularly care for... This brings me to the question of this topic. What's coming down the pipeline within the next year or so that would make this worthwhile? I'm not trying to shit on the system nor Nintendo by saying this, but I get the feeling there are a whole lot of ports, ports and ports and not that much exciting stuff in between? Let's hear it.
Commissar SFLUFAN
How do you feel about Mario and Zelda?

I usually love Zelda as a series but this one bored me to death from what I played. Mario also seemingly being overly open with endless collectibles doesn't really make me excited for it. TheLeon
It seems like a lot of what's coming is either ports/remakes or new iterations of long-running franchises (Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem etc.) There are titles like Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3 that might be exciting, but at this point the titles are pretty much all we have (I wouldn't expect them anytime soon). I'm inexplicably hyped for Yoshi's Crafted World Maybe it's just been a while since I've played a CUTENESS OVERLOAD game.
crispy4000
There's already great stuff on the system already to dig into first. Zelda BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2 and Mario & Rabbids are fantastic. Haven't gotten around to Octopath Traveller, Splatoon 2 or Mario Tennis yet, but those are supposed to be solid too. Nintendo's DLC has also been spot on this generation. There's plenty of that go around as well, if you enjoy those games. Same goes for Wii U ports, if you missed that console. (DK:TF is a must) For future exclusives: The Leon brought up Yoshi. There's also proper Pokemon and Animal Crossing games on the way. Amazatron
If you find the current lineup unappealing, I doubt it will change much in 2019 unless there is one title in particular that you really want (Fire Emblem, Metroid, etc.). The question is how long did you play it (Zelda)? If it was 4 hours or less, chances are you didn't even get past the intro. It's hands down the game of this generation. Horse balls be salty. I'm personally not into the 'make your own fun' without proper dungeons and all that, it sounds really boring, I'll be honest. Thanks for the responses. The only games I'm interested in here so far are Bayo 3 and Prime 4. The latter one has me really concerned though since it's not made by Retro. The first three are some of my favorite games of all time. That being said, it is a motivator to get a Switch, that much is true. Does the Switch have a virtual console option for buying classic games by the way?

But there's as much puzzles in there as Majora's Mask or Wind Waker all said and done. It's just more spread out over the world. It's not really a 'make your own fun' sort of game, though it can be. Brian
Games I own that I liked: Golf Story Mario + Rabbids Captain Toad Treasure Tracker Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Snipperclips Next game I am looking forward to which comes out soon is
Bloodporne
Tropical Freeze...that's a good addition. I really liked the first Returns title on Wii and still pop it in occasionally. My wife loves Donkey Kong as well. That's another port though, right? Not that it matters really as I don't have a Wii U.
TheLeon
Tropical Freeze was one of my favorite Wii U games. Definitely worth picking up, especially if you liked Returns.
number305
I was getting pretty close to pulling the trigger on a switch when the report came out early this month that said there was going to be a newer revision coming out next year. So who knows what that is going to be but I'm at least going to wait and see what the new hardware is first.
GameDadGrant
I’ll throw a shout out to Fire Emblem Warriors, which is already out now. Pretty good game for a mindless hack and slash. And also ULTRA Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers and Monster Hunter Generations ULTIMATE. And we'd be remiss if we didn't mention Xenoblade Chronicles 2! Also, in addition to the games already mentioned, keep an eye out for “Dragon Marked For Death” which is due out in December, and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes which is also due out soon. And of course, Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee is coming next month (with integration with Pokémon GO on phones/mobile devices!). 5 hours ago, Bloodporne said: Does the Switch have a virtual console option for buying classic games by the way? Kinda. There are a bunch of downloadable older games, like SNK’s “ACA” series (Metal Slug, King of Fighters, Puzzle Bobble, etc) Some of Nintendo’s old arcade games are on there too. (Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, Punch-Out!!, etc) Plus various collections, like Mega Man Legacy Collection and the like. In ADDITION to that, when you sign up for Nintendo’s online service ($20 a year) you also get access to various NES games (a little over 20 at this point) that play like the old days...with the added benefit of being able to play multiplayer online in them! Kind of a neat touch. Anyway, hope that helps!

Well if you ever want to think about it, beyond the games people mentioned, it's my preferred systems for 2D indies on account of the portability working really well for them. For example, Dead Cells on Switch is fucking perfect.

Seeing how it turns out this thing doesn't even have a real virtual console, that would've been similarly useful. Spoiler Ok, I kid. I may still get one for Xmas it seems! I think I mainly want this so my wife and I can play Mario Kart, Odyssey and Zelda together. Nintendo titles are the only video games she'll remotely entertain playing so I guess it can't be Hardcore-Horror-Fuck-Yea-Insane-Systemz-Killer-Combo all the time. Wait a minute, I see a hidden intention of her purchase here...
