CrossFit Games 2024, Athlete drowns in Fort Worth competition

There absolutely needs to be criminal prosecution of the four event officials (two on paddle boards and two at the finish line) who could clearly see that he was in peril.

I know exactly nothing about this type of sport, but saw a triathlon athlete say what happened is one of the reasons swimming is the first event in triathlons, as the drowning was likely due to some sort of muscle issue from already being tired from the run they just completed. Interesting take, and certainly plays into the notion that there may be some legal negligence on the part of the organizers.

In their defense, he probably used his final breaths to explain to them the virtues of CrossFit and they thought all was well.

This is absolutely the reason. 2/3rd of triathlon deaths are related to swimming.
