The best outcome for the nation at this point would be if the assassin was a foreign actor, not aligned with either party.  Preferably Russia - and then maybe the MAGA crowd would rightfully consider Russia an adversary, if not an enemy of the United States.

But it was probably someone who just really hated Donald Trump.

This is assuming the revelation of facts will alter their viewpoints.

Keep in mind, they've all been conditioned for years now not to trust the media.

They have a point tho

But then the alternate sources of information they turned to instead are way worse, and likely to tell them exactly what they want to hear.

That it was a conspiracy, and no matter who the shooter ends up being, it was Agatha The Left All Along.

The believed location of the gunman, and the stage. A assault-style rifle has been recovered.

I don’t want to turn this into a gun porn thread, but I’ve never shot a gun. How difficult is a shot with an assault-style rifle at that distance?

There is no such thing as being "too serious" for the very real ramifications of this event and it sure as hell isn't "time for some laughs".

I'm not in the mood for levity in this thread.  Not at all.

Any advice on all of this?

It's not a difficult shot with a rifle (doesn't matter if it's an assault style rifle) for an experienced marksman.  One of the guys at work was shooting his .50 cal rifle out to 1700 yards last weekend and getting within a foot of where he was actually aiming.

Not sure on the exact distance but a stationary target at 300 yards from a prone position with a decent rifle isn't difficult for a intermediate shooter if they are aiming at center of mass. Head which appearantly this shooter was going for is obviously harder

A well zeroed weapon with an intermediate level shooter is manageable if aiming center mass.. all that before optics come into play… that the shooter grazed the ear.. it will depend if the first or last shot hit Trump.. first shot could be used to confirm range and impact then you kentucky windage that crap..

100 yards? Not hard, you can group your shot in less than 2 inches at 100 yards

A sentiment with which I agree, from Reddit:

"I think we can stand by for the most unhinged version of Trump we’ve seen thus far. Having a near death experience is an intense and stressful event for anyone, and he wasn’t playing with a full deck to start with.

His crazy is about to hit 10."

Federal prosecutors say former President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform what he claimed was the home address of former President Barack Obama the same day a man with guns in his van was arrested near the property.

The only thing I care to say about this is: it’s way too fucking easy to own a gun in this country.

That’s a big problem. In this country you need more ID to vote than to buy a killing machine

As usual, it’s okay when a Republican does it.

From the diagrams I’m seeing, this dude was on literally the next closest roof to Trump besides the one the secret service snipers were on. Absolutely incredible failure.

Did you see the clip from the guy flagging it to SS and the Police for 3 mins?

Spoiler

There is absolutely little, if no, frame of reference for this.

...and this day all started with my going to my nephew's birthday.  For the last month, I feel like there's been some curse on me.  Why can't I just enjoy life?!

I know you’re struggling, but this isn’t about you, dude.

Shooter was a 20 year old male.

Quote

New tonight: CNN's John Miller reporting that the FBI has identified the suspect. Name not being released yet, but his sources say the suspect is a 20-year old man from Pennsylvania.

You're right, and I'm sorry.  But seriously, I'm scared as hell.  What are the consequences going to be regarding this?  If the shooter turns out to be a minority, are we going to see waves of violence against those groups?

And what if (heaven forbid) this actually was an assassination attempt called by Biden?  Because of the SCOTUS ruling, does this qualify as an "official act"?

We may be on the precipice to the end of this country as a democracy.

I expect violence against the left to be a result of this one way or the other and everyone should be taking steps about that.

Do not display your political affiliation, I’ve removed the pride symbols from my scrubs, do the basic situational awareness when in public and do on.

If this is true sensible gun laws could have stopped this…

”Pennsylvania also has other gun laws, including:

Age restrictions

The minimum age to purchase a long gun, such as a rifle or shotgun, is 18, but the minimum age to purchase a handgun is 21. However, in January 2024, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the age restriction for handguns was unconstitutional and enjoined it from being enforced in April 2024.”
