PS3 isn't some fluke in design. You can see where Sony was focusing on parallelized operations as it is a core part of the VU design on the PS2.

Yes, it wasn’t a fluke that it was an awful design that devs said was notoriously hard to develop games for, and still can’t be successfully emulated. It also wasn’t made by Sony.

Also before cuda existed.

Yes Yes I too saw the inevitable current state of AI back when I was making GBA games.

:duckhuntdog:

And not even a programmable GPU! GF2 GTS was still fixed function!

Must have been an impressive university to get general purpose compute out of that! 🤯

Are you really trying to downplay all the reports of devs saying it was an awful chipset to develop for and greatly helped 360 rise to dominance for most of the generation?

He’s giving that reaction because you came in and started arguing with him but on an unrelated subject

It is so stupid how long it took for a company to break the $1T barrier and now in a fraction of the time they’ve done it 3x over.

I'm sure it's just inflation!

Nvidia was courting Higher Education for a long ass time. Early 2000s was my first encounter. Since then I've seen Nvidia continue to plow ahead in such markets. It wasn't a single lab, it was all labs, across Canadian universities, Whwn ATI was still a thing. I know Canada is bad at international commerce but come on.

CUDA would not have been pushed if post-secondary education markets weren't already aligned and ready to showcase Nvideah technology.

I foresee a Nvidia crash once AI development plateaus. Not to mention the hype will disappear eventually as well. AI will likely take a hit like with block chain companies and such.

Honestly though. I haven't looked to see if the massive jump is justified by actual sales or if it is primarily speculation and hype.
