Signifyin(g)Monkey
Welp...after thinking about it I realized there is one major thing Biden can do that will throw the race back in his favor, which is get extremely lucky. I think if The war in Gaza suddenly ends on terms that somehow satisfies his constituency The Fed starts lowering interest rates aggressively starting next month or so Trump does some more extremely abhorrent, stupid shit in a high-profile way (something worse than business fraud) Something happens that makes it look like he helped Ukraine 'win' Trump takes a hit on the legal front that actually hurts him--either by having one of his trials sped up or by something crazy happening at his sentencing Maybe something happens that creates a rally-around-the-flag effect right around the time a second debate improves Biden's image ...he might still pull off a reelection. In terms of minor things he can do, I can only think of Kick ass at the second debate Have a kick-ass convention speech And, most importantly: Look better on television I don't know how you do it--pump him full of drugs if you have to--but he needs to somehow start looking better in public appearances. Hire a speech coach and teach him how to project his voice, how to articulate his words better, and how to improve his body language. Jack him up with adderall and have him seem strong and quick-witted in debate #2. The median voter has turned into a worthless moron who makes decisions based on how things look on TV. Make him look better on fucking TV. Short of that, I can only hope the DNC goes into overdrive in completely immobilizing Trump during his second term and has a skilled up-and-comer come in 2028 and fix everything. If we're lucky we'll still have elections, we'll own the House and the Senate, and every conservative on the Supreme Court will either step down or drown on a luxury cruise. 1 1

I don't think there ARE any other debates. This is the only one which is why it's so early. Neither guy is their parties' official nominee and we don't even know who Trump's V.P. is. AbsolutSurgen
I had to turn that off after 45 minutes in disgust. The two candidates presented themselves exactly as expected; no surprises. I'm coming at this as a foreigner, who is mostly concerned about the US foreign policy, economic success, trade policy and support of alliances such as NATO. Trump carried himself exactly as one would expect, came off as a lying maniac in the early stages of dementia. I can't imagine him being a candidate in any other democracy anywhere else in the world. Biden actually came across slightly more put together than I expected. His dementia, while readily apparent, was actually less impactful than I anticipated. It's scary that this man, in his current condition, has control of nuclear weapons. I recognize that the US has a history of hiding the decline of Presidents (see FDR), but I don't understand how his cabinet hasn't yet tried to put Kamala in charge (as scary as that would be; although historic, the first South-Asian Woman president). It goes without saying, with how far he's declined, there is no way he could successfully be President for another term. Congratulations guys, you've successfully put the rest of the world in a state of fear.

Spork3245
It still amazes me that the moderators let them say whatever without any push back. The guy who did the Colorado primary for the house seat was amazing - this was a shit show. Trump said that Democrats allow "after-birth abortions" and all the moderators said was "thank you". Ricofoley
It's such a perfect Democratic party thing to not have any serious primary challengers for Biden and then whip itself into a blind panic right before the convention. Don't get this twisted as me being on Trumps side by any means. He litteraly didn't answer one question he was asked and he repeated himself a ton. Both candidates are terrible. Reputator
Regardless of what the Democrats' response is, I think last night is a turning point in this race. I don't see a way for us to win. At this point the focus of the entire party should be on down-ballad races. Keep as many congressional seats as possible, push funding for as many state and local elections as you can muster, and try to turn the government blue in any way, shape, or form possible. Make it impossible for Trump to do much of anything while in office, and get ready for a hellish four years of fighting in the courts. chakoo
I'm curious today to see what gets reported in the media and how much shit cleaning up is done to polish last night's turd of a debate. I will say I am concerned with the initial aftermath that all the focus was on Biden and not how much Trump was lying and not able to respond to questions. 29 minutes ago, Best said: Yea but so is Trump. I will agree that Biden last night completely screwed up. Yet with that said he could at least answer questions asked of him and respond to falsehoods made. Trump on the other hand didn't answer questions when asked and if he ever did respond it was responding to a question that was asked 1/2 questions ago. The man lied through his teeth and rambled about unrelated crap. I know you're not saying their performance was the same but that was not a mentally sound man.
