Keyser_Soze
Oscar Rules Updated for 2025 Awards: Original Score Shortlist Increased, Drive-In Theater Eligibility Removed and More VARIETY.COM The Oscars have updated rules and regulations for the 2025 ceremony including increasing original score shortlist, removing drive-ins and more. Quote The Academy will no longer recognize drive-in theaters as a qualifying venue for Oscars eligibility, a measure temporarily adopted in 2020 when indoor movie theaters were closed. That year, the Academy also allowed films shown on streaming and VOD platforms to qualify due to the pandemic.
SoberChef
Like Drive-Ins don't already have their collective backs against the proverbial wall. This doesn't help matters, then again did it even ever really matter during the pandemic? Just amazing that they remained open AND not only showed films, but also hosted comedy specials live, pretty freaking sweet.
Air_Delivery
I don't really think this means much. Its highly unllikely a film would only screen at a drive on and not regular theaters.
