The series peaked with the second film where they invaded Cuba.

Few things will ever top the sheer gonzo insanity of Bad Boys II. Movie is epic.

As for this one, the same guys who directed Bad Boys III came back to do this one and that one was surprisingly solid. Nothing great but good enough for a Bad Boys film. I have faith this will at least be as solid as that.

Bad Boys 2 is one of my all time favorite action movies. 3 was alright. I didn’t hate it but I only watched it once in theater and never felt the need to rewatch.

Yeah I only saw the third once at home but what I thought was going to be a disaster was actually fairly funny and entertaining, particularly the generational difference angle. It was nothing memorable (I only remember a few bits of it now) but it wasn't a bad or mediocre film either.

I’ve only seen the 2nd movie one (in theatre) and absolutely hated it. I remember checking my phone on the time several times throughout. Plus the Cuba thing had me throw my hands up and say “ SURE! WTF NOT!” I like big dumb fun action movies but this one was just big and dumb.

The ironic thing is the critics LOVED the third one compared to the first two.

It’s going to bug me till my dying day that THIS ONE isn’t called “Bad Boys 4 Life”. But they wasted it on the third one.

I'll start by admitting a fondness for the Bad Boys series that I can't entirely justify. As a teen boy, I ate up late 90s through early 00s Michael Bay dumb action flicks. Give me some dynamic camera angles of fast cars, some oversized explosions, swing the shot a full 360 around our heroes, punctuate it with some cheesy comedy, and I'm sold. Ride or Die is a great entry in that style of filmmaking. The camera work is unhinged in the best way. It's overly dynamic almost all the time, blending impressive steady cam work, virtual camera trickery, swooping drone shots, and even some crazy flipping first person views. I'm pretty sure that more than one camera shot gets its own sound effects, like you're personally being flown into the action. The directors and cinematographers here took Bay's over the top look and amped it up to 11.

No, the plot doesn't really hold together, the film hits every cliche in the book, and every attempt to pull on heart strings feels more than a bit misguided (especially when it involves Will Smith), but it's still a fun watch. Martin Lawrence gets to be even more crazy than he has been in the other entries and Will Smith gets to pretend he's still the biggest action star on the planet. If you want to watch the best action movie of the summer, go see Furiosa or Fall Guy, but if you've seen those and still have a taste for action, you can do far worse than Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

I haven't seen Bad Boys: Ride or Die yet but I think it's time we start mentioning the names of the directors of Bad Boys 3 and Bad Boys 4, Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (who professionally for credits go by Adil & Bilall), two brown (I believe Moroccan) Belgian dudes who have now consistently been making good movies for a decade. Except for the Bad Boys movies, they also co-write all the movies they direct. It's a shame their Batgirl movie got permanently shelved by WB/DC because clearly these two have some serious talent. I highly recommend their Belgian films Image, Black, Gangsta and Rebel (which they made between the two Bad Boys movies). Black and Rebel are particularly good. They also directed two episodes of Ms. Marvel. If this movie makes good money then hopefully they continue to grow their skills because I foresee even better movies going forward if they're given a chance.
