This is on VoD streaming now. Fantastic movie. It’s basically a new Shoot’Em Up (2007) but obviously more melee combat focused. So much fun.

A bit weird that it’s 4k but no HDR available as far as I can tell. Visually it’s really stunning and HDR would’ve made a lot of scenes pop to Pacific Rim levels.

Oh, I also forgot to mention: I have never in my life winced or shuttered at the brutality of a fight scene in a movie, and this one made me do it twice. Legit some of the most brutal fight scenes I’ve ever seen put to screen in movie or TV.

box office take on this one was horrible. I might have been the only one to see it in the theaters

Deadpool & Wolverine will probably be the first movie I see in theaters since pre-COVID. I’d rather watch stuff at home, especially since it’s like 4-8 weeks out from streaming these days.

There was one that definitely made me wince a bit, which two were they for you? As for the movie itself, it was pretty good. I watch a lot of East Asian martial arts cinema so while the fighting was brutal it's got nothing on something like Project Wolf Hunting. However, it's done so over the top at times that the brutality is mitigated somewhat which makes sense given the tone of this film is a lot more (dark) comedy than I would have thought knowing nothing going in, which gave the film its own identity in this field of films like Nobody, The Raid films, the John Wick films, etc. This movie in a lot of ways reminded me of Shoot 'Em Up, Crank and Hardcore Henry where the film just goes for broke (like you mentioned). The final fight scene was pretty stellar. I wish the film had more substance to it (the story is pretty weak and there are some frustrating plot contrivances) but I enjoyed this one.

Spoiler

Cheese grater, which was more of an “oof” type of wince, then the final fight when the shaman guy was dragging the knife along the arms and legs.

It was the second one for me, but the first was definitely the other one that was up there, you're spot on.

Watching now. H. Jon Benjamin is really jarring lol. Maybe that's the point?

Edit:

Spoiler

I enjoyed it. The highlights for me were the 'sponsored' Culling Frosty Flakes fight and the final fight with friggin' Mad Dog. At 55 years old, that guy is still a beast. The corridor fight was cool because it made me think of 'Equilibrium', but turned up to 11.

The cheese grater was a lot of fun. The arm and leg filet was quite brutal, although that move probably would've been the end of most fights lol.

The narration did become less jarring, but I still thought about Archer and Bob's Burgers everytime he spoke.

A couple of weeks ago, I watched 'Night Comes for Us', or something along those lines, and that one also had a brutal final fight scene with another 'The Raid' alum.
