Bacon
So, as far as I am aware, you literally only need the knife to open that one taped breaker box at the start of the game and the rest of the time it is just a sub-weapon. And the one thing I dislike, but people seem to love is the enemy gang banging from fine - death. It happened to me and I saw a video of it on reddit, but like there are times where you basically can't do anything but die because you get constantly chained grabbed before you can move. Of course this is fixed with sub-weapons, but without them you can get stun locked to death.

I fell throw the floor and then a zombie dude got me, and then another zombie was coming over and I couldn't do enough damage to one and it just overwhelmed me. Bacon
Back to the first boss for a second. Something I did and noticed others doing is trying to find a way to beat the boss with the environment or wait it out when the only way to beat it is to pump 'em full of led. Like, it didn't really feel like a boss you were meant to shoot to death. Like the weak point is obvious, but it just takes so many bullets. It feels really weird and like a missed opportunity that there are gas canisters and shit everywhere in his arena and yet you can't use a single thing. That first boss fight is a low point weirdly enough. The game devolves into a clunky TPS during it, like RE4 Lite with no ammo. Not as bad as this enemy: Spoiler Sewer monsters which are basically just the boss. They are absurd bullet sponges, very hard to hit without blowing sub-weapons and several can't be avoided. Between this and RE7, I don't get what Capcom has against at least having like...FIVE different enemies. Then again maybe the quality of any non-zombie enemy means it's for the best. Greatoneshere
I have found if you down enemies by shooting them in the head and their head happens not to blow up you can just quickly whip out the knife and cheese the zombie kills by stabbing them to death while they are on the ground. Saves you a ton of time and ammo and the knife doesn't really degrade all that fast. Been saving tons of ammo by killing zombies this way. Once they are down they can't do anything until they start doing their "get up" animation but you can stab them constantly and break that animation and they'll simply go down again. I'm only 2-3 hours in, still in the police station, saving constantly, and haven't run in to Mr. X yet. Just starting playing Monster Hunter: World as well and been playing through the Devil May Cry's in anticipation of Devil May Cry 5. Capcom has got it back it seems. And definitely don't use them for the random stabs once you get grabbed by a zombie (you lose them once you do so) because they are zombie finishers and last a long time if you don't waste them that way. Xbob42
Beat Leon's hardcore campaign about an hour ago! Took 9 and a half hours and I missed a few things, but it was a great time! The game definitely opens up and allows you to go a little more wild once you get out of the police station. I finished the game with like 150-200 handgun bullets, and was shooting my 20+ magnum shots for fun on the final bosses. 2 hours ago, Bloodporne said: Hide contents Sewer monsters which are basically just the boss. Between this and RE7, I don't get what Capcom has against at least having like...FIVE different enemies. Then again maybe the quality of any non-zombie enemy means it's for the best. Spoiler You're really not meant to bring those down with standard ammunition. I think I used normal ammo on one or two (like 2 mag shots and some shotgun shells, spreading it out) and then got the flamethrower, the flamethrower fucking ROASTS them. Just keep lightly feathering the trigger so you don't eat up too much ammo and they'll go down quick. You CAN avoid them without subweapons, as I ran by like 3 of them to get to the flamethrower. USE DAT FLAMETHROWER. Even on hardcore I had fuel until the end of the game and I used it pretty often! I found myself actively using defensive items as a sort of offense to get through a tough hallway that I didn't want to expend ammo on, "I'll pop a knife in the first one, then a flashbang in the second which'll stun 'em all and I'm free without firing a single shot." It's fun to think up strategies. I really liked the game and have started Claire's, also on hardcore, but I think my biggest complaint is you don't have a default defensive move. No dodge and no block. I think a small dodge would've been perfect to help make some of the later stuff feel a little less cheap. I had to do the final boss like 4 times because I kept getting hit by attacks that I couldn't viably seem to dodge. I think I have an idea of what I was supposed to do, but eventually I got it just by memorizing patterns and knowing where to stand, but I think you could totally do it by using the environment in that situation. A simple dodge would've felt way better, though. All in all, I've had a great time and can't wait to finish up Claire's campaign. Hardcore had me worried at first because I was constantly low on health and out of ammo with no ink ribbons, but by the end I felt really powerful and like I knew exactly what I needed to do to take on any challenge. (Except the part above, which, even then, wasn't a huge deal.) Hoping to unlock some secret modes, so far all I've gotten is the 2nd Run, I assume if there's any additional modes, you get them after completing that. Kal-El814
Finished Claire's path on hardcore, now onto Leon. It's really solid overall, minus a couple quibbles that could just be related to playing on hardcore for my first runs, which people mentioned above... a couple bosses really soak bullets, some hits from the late game bosses can OHKO you without any real chance to learn its pattern, and the possibility that you can run into a boss at any time didn't provide more challenge, it just meant I did laps back and forth to item storage. I kinda wish they kept consumables / weapons in one inventory, and environmental / puzzle inventory limitless and separate. If I can psychically know when I don't need bolt cutters anymore, and warp batteries through hammerspace crates... just let me have all of those gizmos on me at all times but make the space for heals and ammo more precious. Overall though, a really great remake and I'm having a blast.
SaysWho?
I love this game. I'm near the end for Leon and will jump right into Claire after that. I never played the original. I enjoyed what I played of the REmake Remaster (never finished it because other games released, and I hated the tank controls of the original), but it was RE7 that got me into what an RE game is all about. RE2 Remake was a Day 1 purchase for me due to that, and now I'm down for anything they do with RE. I'm so dorky because the first time I come across the door and the inventory popped up, I was like, "YES NOW I GET TO FIND SHIT TO OPEN OTHER SHIT!" I like doing that. It plays similar to this remake. The original REmake remains my favorite and I've played it on GameCube and PC. I admit, I preferred playing it on PC with standard controls. I handled the tank controls well back in the day, but it was super awkward trying them again when I first got it on PC.
