CitizenVectron
reuters.com WWW.REUTERS.COM Wasn't even a door, it was just a side panel on the plane. Fortunately no one was sitting in that row... An article from literally yesterday about how Boeing wants the MAX exempt from some safety regulations: https://www.seattletimes.com/business/boeing-aerospace/boeing-wants-faa-to-exempt-max-7-from-safety-rules-to-get-it-in-the-air

CayceG
24 minutes ago, CitizenVectron said: Okay. I went on a rant about this last night. 1. What blew out last night WAS a door. This is a big problem and points to probably something wrong during construction. Alaska has grounded their 737 Max 9s, rightfully so. 2. What Alice is tweeting about in the first article is something different. The issue here is a problem with the engine cowling deicing on the Max 7 and Max 10. The problem is that when the deicing is turned on during dry and non-icing conditions there can be higher than normal temperatures in the cowling. The worry is that these temps could cause material failure and potentially lead to pieces detaching. This has not been observed to have happened. 3. Boeing is working on a permanent fix to this but it will take time. In the interim is also proposing to the FAA a temporary change in operations to allow them to keep operating planes and provide a layer of safety to avoid high temps when the deicing system is operated in the wrong conditions. 4. In the 2nd article Alice tweeted, that's yet a third separate issue. Congress granted that exemption in the 2nd article because the law was applying an already-passed ate to multiple plane models AND the Max 7 and Max 10. The Max 7 and 10 were cut out, but still required the Max 7 and 10 to have some systems retrofitted within 3 years. After that, if they aren't retrofitted, those planes can't operate. https://archive.is/KsxaN#selection-2125.0-2164.0 Boeing isn't blameless and needs to get its shit together. But Congress/the FAA aren't giving them a blank check to do what they want. That said, it's extremely fortunate no one was hurt in this Alaska blowout.
Subzwari1987
The part that blew off was a side paneling that covers an optional emergency exit. If the plane has a seating arrangement that can sit over a certain number of passengers, then an emergency exit door is installed at that spot. Otherwise they don’t need the exit and it’s covered with a panel. The 737-900ER has the same type of exit, and that plane was released in the late 2000s.

In this case there was no door, it sounds like, so it's possible that this area is much weaker than the main fuselage.

Nokra
This is all over the news here in Portland. Pretty damn scary, and I'm really glad nobody was hurt. I'll reserve judgement on Boeing until the investigation is complete, but it really doesn't look good.

Don't know if I should believe this or not :P My guess is all the moisture on the screen was registering as touches that prevented the screen from sleeping. And it either fell out of the plane with the screen already on, or within the window where you can wake the screen just by touching it before you have to do Face Lock/enter your password again and so the moisture woke the screen. CitizenVectron
United finds loose bolts on plug doors during 737 Max 9 inspections THEAIRCURRENT.COM United Airlines has found loose bolts and other parts on 737 Max 9 plug doors as it inspects its fleet of Boeing jets following the Friday rapid depressurization aboard an Alaska Airlines jet of the same make, according to three people familiar with the findings. Following the door blowing out on the Alaskan flight (after having warning lights on three flights), United Airlines is inspecting their own MAX planes...and has found five so far with loose bolts on the same door.
