mclumber1
Argentina Elects Javier Milei in Victory for Far Right - The New York Times WWW.NYTIMES.COM Argentina’s next president is a libertarian economist whose brash style and embrace of conspiracy theories has parallels with Donald J. Trump. Several videos on my youtube feed have popped up recently which detailed how much of Argentina's potential has been effectively squandered over the last century. After being controlled by mostly Peronists or those who closely aligned with that ideology for 70 years, it will be interesting to see if Milei will have any success turning the country around. Commissar SFLUFAN
Argentina presidential election: far-right libertarian Javier Milei wins after rival concedes | Argentina | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Victory for TV celebrity-turned politician catapults South America’s second-largest economy into an unpredictable future Quote During his campaign, Milei – who will take office on 10 December – vowed to abolish the central bank and dollarise the economy in order to overcome a financial calamity that has left 40% of Argentina’s 45 million citizens in poverty and pushed inflation to more than 140%. “I know how to exterminate the cancer of inflation,” Milei proclaimed during last Sunday’s final presidential debate which most pundits believed Massa had won. Milei’s victory was celebrated by other big beasts of the global far-right including Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro who had championed his campaign and has promised to attend his inauguration. “Hope is sparkling in South America once again,” Bolsonaro wrote on X, hailing what he called a victory for “honesty, progress and freedom”. Leftwing opponents reacted with shock and dejection to the election of a notoriously erratic figure whose radical ideas include legalising the sale of organs, cutting ties with Argentina’s two biggest trade partners, Brazil and China, and closing more than a dozen ministries. Quote Milei – a climate-denying populist who is known by the nickname El Loco (the Madman) – has also enraged millions of Argentinians by questioning the four-decade consensus over the crimes of its 1976-83 dictatorship, during which an estimated 30,000 people were killed by the military regime. His vice-presidential running mate is Victoria Villarruel, an ultra-conservative congresswoman who has played down the dictatorship’s sins. “He is way more excessive and unstable than [Jair] Bolsonaro and Trump. So it’s highly unpredictable what this person could do [in power],” Federico Finchelstein, an Argentinian historian who studies the global far right, said on the eve of Sunday’s election.

Commissar SFLUFAN
Some more information from a few months ago on how utterly batshit insane he is: Far-right outsider takes shock lead in Argentina primary election | Argentina | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Former tantric sex coach and Donald Trump admirer Javier Milei has said he thinks the climate crisis is ‘a socialist lie’ Quote Milei, 52, has a wiry mane of unkempt hair and struts like a rock star during his fiery campaign appearances. He has described himself as anti-abortion and claims that global heating is a “socialist lie”. He says students in Argentina’s free public education system are “hostages of a system of state indoctrination” and has promised to abolish sex education in schools. Milei has suggested replacing Argentina’s free public education up to and including university studies with a “voucher” system and has hinted that he would end obligatory primary schooling. In a YouTube campaign video, Milei announced that he would disband a number of ministries that he deems unnecessary. “Culture ministry – out! Environment – out! Ministry of women and gender diversity – out! Public works – out! Science – out! Labour and social security – out! Ministry of education and indoctrination – out!” Milei yelled. Quote Milei shot to daytime TV fame a few years ago as a brash economist and tantric sex coach who spoke openly about his preference for threesomes, assuring him wall-to-wall appearances on talkshows. He turned this notoriety into a political career and was elected to the lower house of congress in 2021 after founding Liberty Advances. Milei’s antics have continued during his presidential campaign, including his proposal to legalise people selling their organs. “If women can have control over their bodies, why not everybody else?” he has said.

Commissar SFLUFAN
Javier Milei, Telepathic Conversations With Dogs (And God) A Troubled Youth, And The Issue Of Mental Health WWW.FORBES.COM Increasingly there appears to be a sense that, if and when the Austrian economic school-obsessed economist makes it to the Casa Rosada, his policy plan coupled with an irascible temper will lead to an... Quote Milei is a person that has endured deep solitude throughout his life, suffered domestic violence at the hands of his parents and consistent bullying by his peers. This had led him to developing a father-son relationship with his dog, Conan, to the point where his death triggered an intense depression and desperate reaction by the electoral frontrunner. Not only did Milei clone Conan but, through a medium, he apparently managed to have 'direct communication' with him in the afterlife, and later with God himself, who gave him the mission of becoming president and lifting Argentina out of its chronic cycle of decrepitude. Furthermore, among Conan's clones, whom he dubs his "grandchildren," he's built a cabinet that literally acts as his team of counsellors in issues including politics, economics, and foreign policy. Beyond allegedly having telepathic conversation with living and dead animals, God and historical economists, Milei has an extremely short fuse, quickly escalating into a level of rage that is uncommon in someone expected to lead in times of crisis. According to González, Milei has fought tooth and nail to keep his medical records from being leaked and in private conversations fears being considered a lunatic. Commissar SFLUFAN
"Peronism" is a political movement that's very, very difficult to nail down into a consistently-defined left/right ideology. There have been right-wing Peronists and left-wing Peronists, but at its heart, Peronism is very much a "populist" ideology that appears to be malleable to the point where it could easily be described as "Peronism is whatever you want it to be" as illustrated by its wikipedia page description: Quote Ideologically populist,[1] it has been described by some as a Latin American form of fascism.[3][4][5] Others have criticized this as one-dimensional for having negative connotations, as it also includes a form of national-populism and nationalist socialism.[4] Some scholars evaluate Peronism as a paternalistic conservative ideology,[6] and with a mixture of militant laborism and traditional conservatism.[7] Supporters of Peronism see it as socially progressive. Peronism is essentially impossible to pigeonhole ideologically.
