Commissar SFLUFAN
Tetris - the single greatest example of the interactive medium known as the "videogame" ever made.
CastletonSnob
Could Mother 3 be an example of games being art? I've never played it myself, but I've heard great things about it.
Bacon
I think the Anor Londo reveal in DS is artful. Doom Eternal is a work of art.

(Practically) all games are art, but there are definitely games that are unquestionably more "artistic" than others simply because of the way they use the unique qualities of this interactive medium. legend
Lot's of games. What does "is art" actually mean? Every game is an authored medium that evokes emotions and reflection, but I guess in this definition we'd be excluding "fun" and "exhilaration" as a valid emotions for art? If so, still lots of games But some stand outs for evoking hoity toity emotions and reflections might be: Ico SOMA The Witcher 3 Senua's Sacrifice The Last of Us God of War (new ones) Persona 5 Pentiment Disco Elysium etc.

Best, yes. The interactivity is also kinda the opposite of the definition of high art though.
Paperclyp
I believe it is Austin Walker’s position that as soon as you’re trying to prove a medium is art, you’ve lost.

unogueen
The theme of all art is hopelessness. What else do we feel in life. A no is just another day and a yes is the best day ever. For that reason Kane and Lynch 2.

Commissar SFLUFAN
I think that the distinction between "high art" and "low art" has largely become fairly fluid/blurred in this day and age. For example, I'd argue that a film like "Oppenheimer" defies characterization as either high art or low art as it genuinely apperars to encompass both definitions. Fizzzzle
I can't stress this enough, but... Gris. I played that game like 2 or 3 weeks after my mom died, completely not knowing what the game was about, and holy fuck did it wreck me. More than any movie ever has. And by the end, I felt better. I think I didn't stop crying through most of the last level. And I still get emotional thinking about it because the feelings were that intense. Only one movie has ever had that effect on me, and for very different reasons
