CastletonSnob
Seriously, how do we flip Texas blue, or at least purple? Republicans have been in control since 1994. Surely, the state will EVENTUALLY elect at least one Democrat to statewide office, like every other red state has, right?

That's more than the combined population of Wyoming, Montana and North and South Dakota.
stepee
I think the only way to make this happen is to make sure not to vote. I’m tired of people saying to vote, the only way to vote anyone in is to NOT vote

Massdriver
Find an unknown charismatic candidate to run as a dem that has an independent appeal like Beto did his first run and Texas may get a win every 10 years or so for one office. Otherwise I expect Texas to remain a solidly red state for decades.
mclumber1
Your best bet is to get a Democrat to run who is pretty much a Republican. Also they have to be charismatic, can't be anti-gun, and isn't a shitlord like Beto is.
SaysWho?
It’s simple, really. Register voters, run people for all offices down to mosquito control, register voters, get the nuts and bolts working, register voters. Until Dems have a 10 point advantage, they need to wake up everyday and register.

CastletonSnob
I've heard people say to wait until the 2030s or 2040s. Between climate change and Republicans going all-in on fascism, we might not have that long to wait. Reminder that Texas is nowhere near as red as Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, North Dakota, Kentucky, or West Virginia, which have all elected a Democrat to statewide office. Xbob42
Run some dude as a a classic Republican dipshit asshole but then he just conducts his day to day business as a liberal and no one knows or cares because dumb people only focus on the actual election rather than results. (You can see the evidence of this by watching dirt poor people in deep red states talk about all the vague great things Trump did)

Guest
Populism for governor could be a winning idea. Also, Texas has a rather complicated executive branch with split powers between 5 offices. In most states, these powers would reside solely with the Governor. Like, a ton of policy things people ascribe to Abbott are actually the work of Dan Patrick, the Lt. Governor. Especially legislation.

CastletonSnob
Why have Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Alabama been able to elect a Democrat to statewide office, while Texas hasn't? Texas is nowhere near as red as those states.
b_m_b_m_b_m
Three of those states have a tradition of voting for dems that has waned severely as of late (and the most recent elected dems there share their fathers or family name, and aren’t all that progressive anyway) and in the cases of OK and AL their opponents were comically shitty, one being a literal child predator and still nearly won
