b_m_b_m_b_m
$31B lolololol how is that shit going to make any money? (not that the power grid should be run entirely on a for profit basis mind you…)

b_m_b_m_b_m
Quote The third and fourth reactors were originally supposed to cost $14 billion, but are now on track to cost their owners $31 billion. That doesn’t include $3.7 billion that original contractor Westinghouse paid to the owners to walk away from the project. That brings total spending to almost $35 billion. The third reactor was supposed to start generating power in 2016 when construction began in 2009. This country absolutely fails at doing anything. Over time, over budget, no matter what the project
TwinIon
While I want to cheer advances in nuclear energy, this project is probably a detriment to future developments more than anything. $17B over budget, raising rates to record highs with more rate increases to come, and it took forever to build. mclumber1
Too much red tape with nuclear power in the United States. We need to decrease regs and make licensing easier for nuke plants if we want to seriously lower carbon emissions in the US.
Massdriver
I believe that we will see more success with smaller modular projects in the future. It's still a learning process.

My guess is the industrial base to build them shrank since we stopped building them.

Look at France, they’re at 56 grams of co2/kWh while the US is at
