OceanGate Titan submersible disaster - UPDATE 18 Sept 2024 - USCG Releases footage of wreckage portions

To be clear, this wasn't preplanning stuff. They were trying to fucking do this live while under the water the Titanic wreckage site.

The OceanGate team tried to perform these updates at least every five minutes, but it was a slow, manual process done while communicating with the gamepad-controlled sub via short text messages. When Wilby recommended the company use standard software to process ping data and plot the sub’s telemetry automatically, the response was that the company wanted to develop an in-house system, but didn’t have enough time.

“I felt the customer’s concerns were not taken particularly seriously at that meeting,” Wilby added.  “So, following the debrief, I went to Amber Bay, the director of administration, to raise my concerns about what I had just heard. I told her, 'I am really concerned about what this customer just said and that there was a bang as loud as an explosion.’ I asked, ‘What’s being done?’ ”.

Wilby alleged Bay's response was, "Yes, many people are concerned about you. You don’t seem to have an explorer mindset."

“I was kind of taken aback by that because she didn’t acknowledge what I had just said and what was going to be done,” Wilby recalled.

Former OceanGate employee Antonella Wilby recalled during the Coast Guard hearing into the Titan submersible tragedy that a customer raised concerns to the company a year before the submersible imploded and killed five people onboard in June 2023.

An explorer mindset of a place that has been explored using a sub that has some shitty external cameras and a window with little else...  Calling the rich people going down in that deathtrap "mission specialists" is like when that dinosaur restaurant in Disney Springs calls your table an "expedition"

She wasn't a team player.

I've gotten that a lot. Those places no longer exist.
