SaysWho?
Recently finished The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's a great game. It added a lot of variety with game modes and a ton of content. Took me about 40 hours to 100%. Having said that, the formula hasn’t changed much since 1. There isn’t anything that will change your mind if you don’t like it. If you are interested in Pikmin, this is the one to get.

LazyPiranha
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! Bayonetta 3 Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (GBC) Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Link’s Awakening (Switch) No More Heroes 3 Nier Replicant some decimal or another Stray Immortality —————————————— Fear and Hunger I picked this up after watching Eyepatch Wolf playing it. It looks like a 16 bit top down RPG, but it’s systems and story are both very interesting. It combines elements of a roguelike, an immersive sim, and a survivor horror game all into one. While it has RPG elements like stats and turn based combat, there is no experience system at all. The only way to have better attack, defense, etc. is to find armor and weapons, but virtually every lootable object in the game is random, and not even random from a starting seed. If you die and continue from a save, everything you loot will be different from the first time. Combat works on a limb system where basically every enemy has legs, arms, a torso, and head to deal with and frequently each one will get a turn in order. You can usually one shot an enemy to the head, but you will almost always miss unless you take out their legs first, but if you take out the legs first that leaves their arms free to attack. Enemies with blades can and will cut off your limbs which you can’t back (sort of) meaning you will never hold a shield or be able to dash again for the rest of the game. You are constantly losing hunger and sanity and need to balance those with the rare items you will get and have to figure out what is going to start slipping in favor of something else. Do you use a piece of cloth to stop a party member from bleeding, or use it to make a torch you need to see? The story is heavily… inspired by Berserk, and talking too much about it would give away a lot of the appeal of piecing together what the hell is going on. The short version is you pick a starting character and each have a reason to go into the dungeon of Fear and Hunger where a knight named Le’Garde has been imprisoned to find him. As a warning, the game takes its Berserk inspirations all the way. It is bleak and brutal and frequently has awful things in it including a fair amount of sexual assault both implied and directly shown. Granted these are 16 bit sprites, but still. It can feel a little try hard at times, but at other times it does manage to capture that specific kind of reality defying horror that Berserk pulls off. if any of that sounds intriguing, I’d watch the Eyepatch Wolf video on it to see if it’s your style. It’s a mostly single dev indie RPG maker game so it is somewhat buggy at times, but I liked my time with it.

I’ll give this a 6/10 - really appealing aesthetic and super tight controls and lightning quick restarts. The level design itself is pretty good for a lot of it. But too unreasonable imo on the difficulty front. Remember, I’m way more open to high difficulty with platformers. The design in this is so punishing in its enemy and obstacle placement, it goes too far and leaves no room but to do exactly the right thing in ever level. Which is both more frustrating and also less fun on a pure gameplay level when you can’t improvise your platforming at all since there is zero room for deviation. And the collectibles become just insane to try to collect pretty early on. I think you’d be hearing about this game more if it wasn’t for the difficulty, some reviewers mentioned this as well. Unlike most games that I bother to beat I would not actually recommend this one to most people unless you are really looking specifically for a super hard platformer and consider Celeste a cake walk. This came out of nowhere for me and it’s a surprisingly polished 3D Super Mario 3D World esque platformer. The difficulty is maybe a little lighter than Mario, but higher than Kirby, it’s pretty close to the right balance of providing a challenge while letting you have fun running and jumping around. As a game it’s probably an 8/10 (nothing is wrong but could use some more gimicks to slice up level variety) but being an indie 3D platformer with so much polish and great presentation and 60fps on Switch with no issues, I’m gonna go for an 8.5/10 here. Highly recommended to anyone who likes a fun light hearted platformer. CastlevaniaNut18
Dead Space remake - PC - 9/10 I only played a few hours of the original and that's been over a decade ago and the remake looked so good. Story was pretty decent for Star wars though seemed a little minor key compared to the first one. I rly hate you know who. Little bitch. Still gonna say 9/10 as the level design is just superb and controlling Cal feels amazing as ever and it’s just as good as the first one, both of them being the best Star Wars games.
LazyPiranha
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! Bayonetta 3 Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (GBC) Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Link’s Awakening (Switch) No More Heroes 3 Nier Replicant some decimal or another Stray Immortality Fear & Hunger ---------------------------------------- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Finally put this one to bed after playing it more or less exclusively since it came out. Like Elden Ring, TotK suffers from being a bigger, longer version of something I played to death already. As time went on, the charm wore progressively thin and I just wanted it to be done and there was just more and more of it laid out in front of me. I've been fighting basically the same monsters for over 200 hours now and there's not really anything interesting to add to the mix. The building system is interesting and novel, but the game rarely gives you a reason to do it. The dungeons are better and more of a highlight than BotW, but there's still so few of them overall. Really where it got to be a grind was there were just so many quests and side things to do, and because of the systems involved they're all fundamentally pointless. I could scour this corner of the map for seven special objects to bring to one place and then I'll get... some weapons that will break. Why should I bother? Yes, I could get every set of armor, but the upgrade costs for each set are so steep that I'm better off focusing on one as opposed to spending dozens of hours farming bits and bobs off of enemies. Still, I really enjoyed the vast majority of it, I just was ready for it to be over long before I got through even a decent chunk of the content on offer. The storyline was a good time even though being able to find it in whatever order you please kind of robbed me of some of the intrigue based on what I stumbled across first. The end fight is properly entertaining and a big spectacle. I'm glad they've announced that they're leaving this style behind for the next one because as much as I liked these two, the idea of another game exactly like this is just too much.

I always figured I would play it some time after AW2 was announced to tide me over then that just never happened until a year or two ago and finally got to it. It still served the general purpose I had in mind for it, which is to get me properly HYPE for AW2, which I oh so very much am. Kudos to how well the tech in this 2012 game holds up even without being remastered, they were so ahead of the game with lighting it really made it stand the test of time better than almost all other 360gen releases. stepee
Since @Baconkept talking about it I took a break from playing CP which I just realized will be the last time I acronym and loaded Sonic Gems on dolphin which is really the easiest way to play Sonic R still. It’s such a ridiculously small game when looking at it today. It was even back then. There’s 4 races that are about two minutes each and then a 5th race you have to unlock by collecting chaos emeralds hidden or locked behind challenges. You see pretty much 80% of what the game has to offer you in the first 8 minutes. I still love it though. It played really nicely with rokid so I played a few races in 3d which worked flawlessly with it. Unfortunately however however the emulator they are using in Sonic Gems to run Sonic Fighters doesn’t play with dolphins stereoscopic plugin. Was hoping for Bark in 3D. Brian
2023: Psychonauts 2 - 10/10 Fire Emblem Engage - 7/10 Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe - 8/10 Hogwarts Legacy - 7/10 Cult of the Lamb - 8/10 Case of the Golden Idol - 7.5/10 Dead Island 2 - 8.5/10 Star Wars Jedi Survivor - 8/10 Ravenlok - 6/10 Pikmin 4 - 8.5/10 Super Mario 3D World - 8/10 Bowser’s Fury -9/10 Sea of Stars - 8/10 It’s a solid 2D RPG. The main characters are awful. They are the stereotypical attractive, unlikeable white people that you expect to be casted in a Hollywood movie. The rest of the characters especially Garl are excellent. If I could be Garl, 10/10. This game has a “true ending” that you can achieve after beating it once. I don’t think I will. I am had my fill and ready to move on.
