In a manner of speaking, it certainly can be interpreted that way.
Brick
You really need a special counsel to determine that yes he fucking should?

No, but I'm sure in the political/legal world they see this as a way to distance themselves publicly from critism that this is a "politcal hit". This will, of course, do no such thing. Trumpers see conspiract theories in their breakfast cereal, the clouds, people that are rude to them at the grocery store, etc. 2

It's unquestionably intended to "insulate" the investigation against accusations of political motivations at every turn, but the reality is that it's going to fall on deaf ears and blind eyes.

Commissar SFLUFAN
The Special Counsel will be Jack Smith, the DOJ's DOJ's former public integrity chief. Per Politico: Quote He once secured the conviction of a CIA official charged with "illegally disclosing national defense information and obstructing justice." Quote Smith also oversaw the prosecutions of former Va. Gov. Bob McDonnell (later overturned by SCOTUS) and former Arizona GOP Rep. Rick Renzi.

Commissar SFLUFAN
DOJ Press Release: Appointment of a Special Counsel WWW.JUSTICE.GOV Attorney General Merrick B. Garland announced today the appointment of former career Justice Department prosecutor and former chief prosecutor for the special court in The Hague, Jack Smith, to serve Quote Based on recent developments, including the former President's announcement that he is a candidate for President in the next election, and the sitting President's stated intention to be a candidate as well, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint a special counsel," said Attorney General Garland. "Such an appointment underscores the Department's commitment to both independence and accountability in particularly sensitive matters. It also allows prosecutors and agents to continue their work expeditiously, and to make decisions indisputably guided only by the facts and the law." The Attorney General also stated, "Although the Special Counsel will not be subject to the day-to-day supervision of any official of the Department, he must comply with the regulations, procedures, and policies of the Department. I will ensure that the Special Counsel receives the resources to conduct this work quickly and completely. Given the work done to date and Mr. Smith's prosecutorial experience, I am confident that this appointment will not slow the completion of these investigations. The men and women who are pursuing these investigations are conducting themselves in accordance with the highest standards of professionalism. I could not be prouder of them. I strongly believe that the normal processes of this Department can handle all investigations with integrity. And I also believe that appointing a Special Counsel at this time is the right thing to do. The extraordinary circumstances presented here demand it. Mr. Smith is the right choice to complete these matters in an even-handed and urgent manner."

mclumber1
Amazon really flushed TMITHC down the shitter. It could have been a really good series! Instead, only season 1 was good.

mclumber1
I think they should have left the scifi elements out of the series, and just stuck with a "what if the Nazis won" storyline.
Spawn_of_Apathy
Spoiler alert: the answer will be no. or it will take more than 2 years to determine, the 2024 election will happen, a Republican sworn in, and the inquiry will be immediately killed.
