Prequel “Crystal Lake” series coming to Peacock from Bryan Fuller

In because of Bryan Fuller, except he left the last 4 shows he was attached to, so hopefully he sticks around (including American Gods, Interview with the Vampire, and Star Trek: Discovery). He also walked away from Apple's Amazing Stories reboot as well and his Munsters reboot (the Mockingbird Lane TV pilot) was not picked up either.

In case anyone isn't aware, because Sean Cunningham isn't involved, the only things that really can be used in this series is the location of the camp, Pamela herself, and that's about it.

Does Cunningham own everything else; even the New Line Cinema crap?

I know that grown up Jason & the mask are items belonging to the Cunningham side of things, however they can use childhood Jason in the prequel series.

What I really love about this series potential, and I believe its what probably drew Fuller in, at least in part, is the fact that there is an inherent challenge in terms of not only what can & cannot be used but that its being adapted for a TV series that is more or less official unlike the old "Friday 13th TV series" which was basically only in name. Add to that is the fact that Fuller had to work within a lot of those similar constraints when adapting Hannibal for TV (still to this day one of THE greatest series ever hands down, seek it out if you haven't watched it yet!)

Hannibal was must watch during it's run and I've been meaning to re-watch it again.

I wonder if we'll get Mr. Voorhees. I saw that he was cut from Part 6 so maybe they may have to change the name.

A buddy of mine just watched it recently. Was fun experiencing it through his eyes. That show was so far ahead of its time... would have done better as a streaming show and not a network show on primetime NBC. I'm thankful we got the three seasons we got.

Can you believe it's now been 15 YEARS since we last saw Jason Voorhees on the screen? In the wake of several years' worth of legal troubles, the Voorhees

According to Bloody Disgusting’s sources, A24 has NOT killed off “Crystal Lake” at this time. We have confirmed the show is still happening, but there is indeed some retooling of the project happening behind the scenes. We’re digging for more info. Stay tuned.

That makes five shows since Hannibal was cancelled Bryan Fuller has been a part of. Let this man make a show again!

Legitimately, THIS SHOW was setting up to be Hannibal-esque in the Friday universe. You have a stellar lead cast & attached. A24, this is surely a black eye for you, how in the actual fuck you screwed such an easy layup of a potential award winning series will never be understood.

You'd think so but the problem is award winning series are typically underseen and overly expensive at the same time. Even Hannibal, despite it being an amazing show (for me maybe top 5 of all time), it only lasted three seasons and it was on the bubble of being cancelled every season. Even American Gods (season one being another Fuller joint) was so expensive that Bryan Fuller (and Michael Green) walked away from doing season 2 onward because the studio demanded making a cheaper show but the studio demanded it because the show was too expensive compared to what the show was making back. Even after all that the show did a solid job but still got cancelled after its third season. Unless you end up a "water cooler" type of show that breaks through like Game of Thrones or The Crown or you have Apple or Amazon's endless money to throw at it your show probably isn't going to be made without some compromises. Studio heads and producers are frequently stupid and have terrible forecasts and projections but at the same time stuff has to make money. To some degree you have to blame audiences who are clearly more interested in elevating Bridgerton than Hannibal or Black Sails. I wish audiences at large were more interested in watching more award winning series that are more varied but that just isn't the case. If you look at Netflix's released viewing data report from December 2023, there are some good shows in the top 20 like Beef and Wednesday but most of the shows are very mainstream and not all that great broadly speaking. If all those Night Agent and Bridgerton viewers had watched Hannibal, we'd probably have gotten at least 3 more seasons.

Netflix is expanding its viewership data transparency by releasing its first biannual report covering six months of streaming habits on the platform.

I think it's important to take note of the fact that with streaming unable to make the money studios thought it would for them and as a result studios tightening their belts (there's been a slew of recent cancellations of shows and projects in pre-production that have now been cancelled and many other shows are announcing their end ahead of time now like with 3 Body Problem saying it will end after two more seasons or The Witcher now suddenly choosing to end after season 5 before season 4 has even aired). Between Covid-19 and then the writers and actors' strikes a lot of money has been lost and projects as a result have fallen through. The gaming industry is famously experiencing this really badly with numerous layoffs and studio closures last year and this year is on target to beat that unfortunately. I also found this article interesting which I think contributes to the current problem of "mid TV" and how we have a lot of middle of the road, forgettable shows and people are just tuning out altogether.
