Well, I’m about at a place I can cut back on my 100-120 hour pay periods so I can start getting the volume in I need at the gym: 4-5x a week isn’t enough for my goals so hopefully post Poland I can get to 10x again

Thought I’d go for a run to unwind after a busy week. Kept it very steady and enjoyed a run by some train tracks, then through the city centre, along past the river when I started to feel…uncomfortable. Carried on but it got much, much worse. Then spent the last mile waking and doing my best to not shit myself. Currently posting from the toilet - very relieved to not have in fact shit myself in public. A stark reminder for me though to always use the loo before a run!

Oh boy, I guessed my weight gain at 8lbs and it was 17lbs lol damn. I focused on push-ups besides just walking so much during my vacation and I’m actually p happy with how my definition held up. But damn that is a lot of weight.

Sixth Strongman competition this past weekend, fifth podium finish (came in second).

 

Fun comp - set a new Pennsylvania state record for Farmers Hold (250 lbs in each hand, held for 63 seconds), and something of a PR for Wagon Wheel deadlift (standard bar but at a 13" bar height): 535 lbs for 16 reps. It always feels surprising when I start prep for a 13" deadlift event - despite having a shorter ROM than a standard DL, the higher start point limits leg drive and puts strain on the erectors much earlier than in a standard pull.

 

Couple downsides though - flareup of tendonitis in my elbow totally fucked me on a press medley, kept me from being able to finish the event and caused a lot of discomfort for the rest of the day.  And I managed to give myself a hell of a black eye when my hand slipped during the Fingal's Fingers event, and the implement dropped and hit me just below the eye.  Not a hard hit at all, but more than enough to earn more a few stares and doubletakes in the office this week.

 

Debating on whether I still want to try for one more comp before the end of the year.  There's a nice one not too far away in late October which coincides nicely with the end of the peaking block I'm running now, but I may have to take a short layoff from lifting after next week - having one of the lymph nodes above my groin removed for a biopsy and not sure what the recovery timeline will be for me to resume heavy training. Hopefully not too long, but if I'm being honest, the fact that I'm getting a biopsy because the lymph node is noticeably swollen is giving me some anxiety.
