Where do you land when it comes to anime? You don't seem like an anime person. He's the "They should have dropped three nukes on Japan" guy but Cyberpunk anime is too much for him

Greatoneshere
Just finished this - great ending, really went for it. I highly recommend this for someone who wants something with a lot of style, but is absolutely insane at times. Given the way the show works though: Spoiler Is there really meant to be a season 2 given how season 1 ends and given Cyberpunk 2077's story?

It's positively tame in comparison! I think you're getting the wrong impression from the trailer then The most explicit sex in the anime is very short (like half a second long) and certainly no worse than anything in the game. There's maybe more blood in the anime than the game? Ultimately, the show is very character driven with a very personal and even touching story. The ending really got me in the feels and brings the whole thing together for me. It's one of the few animes that I'm already considering rewatching. The soundtrack is also pretty fantastic and matches the themes so well. Regarding your question: Spoiler It absolutely feels like a standalone self contained story to me. I don't think there's any reason to follow the characters after this except perhaps in cameos. But I really want there to be an option of Studio Trigger doing other self-contained seasons in the world and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that. Also, one of the things I loved about this story, especially in comparison to how the west typically handles it is Spoiler it was ultimately a love story, but they completely skip the whole big misunderstanding that causes the characters to break up until they finally figure it out at the end. I find big misunderstandings in western love stories to be the single most boring plot device in the history of plot devices and yet it feels like every fucking love story movie and show has to use it. In this, there are some secrets between David and Lucy, but nothing that causes them to lose each other. They are dedicated to each other throughout and instead the story finds other ways to add conflict.

I agree with you on all fronts - first that I'd love to see more Studio Trigger self-contained stories in this world, and the ending also really got me in the feels too. The whole thing really is beautifully animated - and the soundtrack is killer, loved the opening and ending songs too.

Keyser_Soze
The show kind of gives me True Romance / heist movie type of vibes but of course set in the setting of the game. 1
legend
Their "music video" for the outro song depicts what happens to a former character of the crew you don't meet, and is pretty great and a very good microcosm of the feel of the series.

legend
I would definitely call it an anime myself. It's made by Studio Trigger which is a Japanese anime house. I'm not sure about the Korean angle you're talking about @Keyser_Soze, maybe they have an office there that did it? But either way Studio Trigger is Japanese owned. That said, this is a rather unique anime and doesn't have many of the common anime tropes that probably would annoy @Commissar SFLUFAN. My dad typically dislikes animes, but I managed to convince him to watch it and he enjoyed it! So much that now he wants to play through the game again. silentbob
I’m a little late but watched the first 2 episodes last night (because I forgot about Werewolf by Night, that tonight) I actually really enjoyed the episodes and my gawd them colours in Dolby Vision and me on Cinderella 99 was AMAZE-BALLZ.(this strain just makes colours POP!) I will try and watch another 1 or 2 episodes tonight with tomorrows holiday and all (Canadian Thanksgiving) 1
skillzdadirecta
Finally got around to watching this and I'm on episode 5. It's very good... makes me want to replay the game. I won't be anytime soon though. Too many other things to play right now, but I definitely WILL be doing another playthrough with a different build. I was a street kid the first time, but I'll be going Corpo this time I think. EDIT: Soundtrack is fire too. The show i mean.
silentbob
Just finished the series tonight and I really really enjoyed it (high) Good characters, good voice cast and awesome action/animation. I hope for more but it seems like this was a one off for as CD Projekt Red says it has no plans for a 2nd season

However, if you're not really into anime and want to explore it, I would recommend watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (Note: There is an earlier version just called "Full Metal Alchemist," but the one you would want to watch if the one with "Brotherhood" in the title). Invariably, this is the anime that makes people who don't watch anime like it. It's also one of the few shows in general that is effectively entirely free of "filler." Every episode moves the plot in important ways. In the early episodes, it's not always obvious. E.g., there is villain they introduce early on who seems like he would just a villain of the week, but is actually an incredibly important character for the whole series.

Unfortunately I don't have any streaming service that offers this show. Might be a stupid question but is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse considered anime? Because if is I really loved both movies and the art style. If Full Metal is a must watch i can get Amazon Prime.

If Full Metal is a must watch i can get Amazon Prime. No Netflix or Hulu? Pretty sure it's still on both. (EDIT: looking at my netflix phone app, looks like they may have removed it. It used to be on it) Words are flexible, so you can make an argument either way. That said, the Spider-man 'verse movies are more typically considered animation, but not "anime." "Anime" is typically reserved for the style of animation popularized in Japan (but does not necessarily have to be made in Japan). That said, if you enjoyed the Spider-man animated movies, there are probably lot's of animes you'd enjoy.
legend
@best3444 If you want a feel for what the Cyberpunk Edge Runners anime is like without starting it, I would give the below music video a watch. As I say in the post, it really captures the whole feel of show (other than it being a music video rather than a show of course ). So if it appeals to you, you will probably like show. And I don't mean to dissuade you from watching Cyberpunk, just pointing out that if you are new anime but are curious, you should definitely checkout Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. It's one of the best introductions to the genre and also remains one of the best animes ever made (it regularly reaches the top of the best anime lists, so that's a pretty commonly held opinion) On 9/22/2022 at 7:57 PM, legend said: Their "music video" for the outro song depicts what happens to a former character of the crew you don't meet, and is pretty great and a very good microcosm of the feel of the series.
Best
I can't get into that. I watched the music video and I just have a very difficult time connecting to that type of art. Spider-Verse impressed visually but I also really enjoy Spider-Man. I don't go out of my way to watch this type of stuff. I'll pass on this series but thanks @legend for trying to introduce me.
