Is the demo playable within Village, or was it a separate download for you? I own it already and saw there was an update recently. Wondering if that's what it is. This looks a little OMG GRITTY in the visuals department, but does seem to have captured the combat of RE4 in important ways. The village layout looks roughly the same too, and based on the story trailer, the game's gonna play the hits. GOTY 2023 and I can't imagine it will be remotely close for me. I do wish they would also remake RE1 with their new engine and the movement from RE2. I have never been able to get on with the old RE games, the puzzles are just too obtuse for me and I get stuck pretty quickly.

It's the same as the original Village in that you have 60 minutes total with it. Basically an update to the original demo with a third person option and the added accessibility menu etc. (I think that's new?)

Wow, really? 2023 is going to be packed with great new games, so I find it a little surprising that you don’t think that anything else will be remotely close to being your GOTY. I think that Resident Evil 4 is a great game, but I’ve played it before so the remake of it won’t be as exciting to me as something new that I haven’t played before because I pretty much already know what to expect from it. This my 3rd favorite RE game {After 1&2} and I'm a HUGE fan of the franchise! Bummed it's March next year but we have plenty to play until then for damned sure! Can't wait to have RE4: Remake installed on my SteamDeck along with 0,1,2,3,Village and 8. This a Dead Space has my very excited. I usually frown on all these danged remakes, but for 2 of my favorite franchises EVER, these are all very welcomed
Bacon
Hmm, no laser sight. Shotgun looks pretty weak. I have a feeling that the combat will feel almost exactly like RE2make and not the more actiony feeling combat of RE4 which I prefer. Bloodporne
Having just finished RE8 in 3rd Person mode, I really hope they didn't just stuff that combat system into this because it just feels like a wimpy, budget copy of RE4's combat. Dusk Golem on Twxxxer has a long thread on the game. Sounds like they've improved the game and the combat a lot (compared to RE4) and supposedly we will see more gameplay snippets this week. But give it a read if you're scared this will turn out bad.

Ah I mean, let's be real, I'm buying it either way. Just hoping for the best since RE2R has remained a bit of a fluke in terms of quality RE games for my tastes. I'll keep an eye out for the gameplay snippets though, thanks.
Commissar SFLUFAN
Resident Evil 4 Remake is Removing Quick-Time Events and Adding Sidequests - IGN WWW.IGN.COM In a recent cover story with Game Informer, Capcom dives into new details regarding Resident Evil 4 Remake, including removable of quick-time events and new sidequests, Quote Capcom provided a better idea of what fans can expect from the highly anticipated remake in a new cover story for Game Informer. The most significant change from the remake is that there will be no quick-time events. Game Informer's story mentions that sidequests are also being added to the remake, stating that blue flyers located in-game are used to collect sidequests for you to complete, with examples including solving a puzzle, tracking down and eliminating a specific enemy. The blue medallion collectible that was featured in the original will also be returning in the remake. One of the more interesting gameplay changes is that knives will have limited durability and will break after a certain amount of use. However, you can store multiple knives in your inventory. Additionally, you will have the option to trade jewels with the merchant in exchange for items such as yellow herbs, treasure maps, and weapon attachments. Resident Evil 4 Remake also changes Ashley Graham, who no longer has a health bar, but if she takes too much damage, she will be in a "downed state" and need to be revived. If she is hit when in a "downed state," she will die. A Capcom representative said that the developers want to make Ashley "feel more like a natural companion and less like a second health bar to babysit," confirming that she can perform things such as sending her through a crawlspace to open a door that's locked on the other side.

RE4, and even re5, have combat I really enjoy due to how killing enemies is done. Enemies die pretty quickly all things considered. I hated how Zombies were in RE2make. I do want tho shoot and kill things and have their heads explode. Also, RE2make guns aren't as satisfying. Love me some Red 9, or the Striker. And when you unlock the Tommy gun. Damn that was just super fun.

How Resident Evil 4’s Directors Approached Designing The Remake WWW.GAMEINFORMER.COM Directors Yasuhiro Ampo and Kazunori Kadoi discuss their initial hesitation to remake the game and how they identified areas ripe for enhancement. More, and way better imo, gameplay footage with some actual action-packed moments. The sound design alone is a huge step up from the wimpy pea-shooters and weak bullet impacts in RE8. And also, I agree with you on RE2R vs. RE4. I think RE2R's combat worked really well for that game where every zombie was a real obstacle and you had to pick and choose which ones to take out to clear a traversable path. But it was purposely cumbersome and difficult to put enemies down, mostly making the weapons feel kind of weak besides when you landed that perfect head-splattering shotgun blast. The cabin fight in this footage for example looks, and sounds, a lot different than RE2R and, gladly, RE8 to me. Guns sound punchy, there's wallbangs, villagers getting splattered with one shotgun hit and so on. Looks like proper RE4 combat to me. Commissar SFLUFAN
More from Game Informer: Resident Evil 4's Sound Designer And Composer Break Down The Remake's Haunting Soundtrack WWW.GAMEINFORMER.COM Learn how Capcom approached composing the game's music and its hair-raising sound effects. Quote Sound design is an often overlooked and underappreciated element of many games, but it's an element Capcom takes very seriously in Resident Evil 4. As horrific as the game looks, it's the soundtrack and creepy sound effects that do much of the heavy lifting in building fear and tension. To understand how the remake remixes and enhances the original game's soundscape, I picked the brains of RE4 sound designer Hiroshi Tamura and lead composer Kota Suzuki to learn how they're making the game sound as good as it plays. Do they give this info for resolutions beyond peasant-level? I know a bunch of geriatrics still play at 1080p because higher resolutions hurt their cataracts or whatever, but what about 1440p? 1440UW? 4k? Etc? What about other frame rate targets? I mean, I assume it'll run great because Capcom's nailed performance lately, but I do wonder about their ability to deliver a properly tailored PC experience, where I can, you know, turn off enemies at a distance rendering at 15 FPS, or LoDs loading in way too close, or needing a third-party tool to unlock a perfectly functional ultrawide mode, etc. Points for the specs at least being for 60 FPS, though. When a developer posts recommended specs for 30 FPS it feels like I've stepped back in time to the original RE4 port where it shipped without lighting... or any shaders at all, if I remember correctly. Never forget!

Xbob42
I mean, the RE8 DLC was hastily made after having no plans for DLC to begin with. They planned out RE7's DLC and I think most of that was worse. The Not A Hero thing was even delayed and was still basically nothing. Although I'm of the opinion that DLC in general almost always sucks shit. Full-on expansions can be great, oftentimes better than the main game, but DLC? I feel like 99% of the time it's "rehashed gameplay in an environment from the main game that we added a few decorations to, often with less voice acting and worse animations" or, the usually more fun and successful DLCs "we're not trying to make new story content so here's some fun arcade mode or something"
