Ricofoley
It sure seems like the protests stemming from this are going to be the biggest since BLM in 2020. Will they actually change anything? I dunno! But it seems significant.

I know I'm gonna get bashed on for being defeatist but you really can't. Our problems are large, multifaceted, some can be traced back to the start of this country, and at this point require solutions that the system is unwilling to do. There are just too many problems and contradictions to use a Marxist term and they are all probably past the tipping point at this stage. As one of our resident history nerd you need to not get to this point in the first place and that is hard.

Unless they’re talking about expanding the court the only difference this would have made at this point or going forward or even in some mystical past where roe is codified into law is the plaintiff would be different. It would be Dobbs v garland instead of dobbs v whole womens health. They’re doing this explicitly because they know they have a group of conservative bona fide psychopaths who want women to die and there’s literally no other check on their power. It’s a power play and not one based on law or reason or technicality. It’s Calvinball! It’s an ideological crusade! It’s one in the same! Everything I am hearing from actual legal experts, even if they find this appalling professionally, is that nothing done here was illegal. At worst is was a norm buster. And one I would have a little sympathy over if not for the fact that the GOP just spent the last decade pissing on every "norm" imaginable. This is a public document that was written to be made as public as possible. The GOP's obsession with "leaks" from the Trump years has well and truly turned into "revealing the horrible things we intend to do to the public is a violation of our right to privacy!". And again, no garentee this was even a liberal with an ax to grind! We talked about other possible conservative motives for releasing this and after reading more of the actual opinion another one came to mind. This is well and truly bordering on the edge of Fox News primetime, throwing shit at the wall, hair on fire type of rhetoric. Alito fucking included the ad hominem about abortion being about black genocide for christ's sake. This may have been a conservative worried that Alito would take out some of the more vitriolic language either through simple edits or Roberts whittling it down with horse trading. By doing this, they increase the chance that the final ruling is maximally horrible.

Right-wing terrorists are already the biggest terrorist threat this nation faces, but from the left? What leftist figure would inspire that? There's no religious ferocity on the left. Not only that but our law enforcement agencies are all right-wing, so they'd stomp out any left wing violence faster than you can turn on water hose. Hell, they were stomping out peaceful left-wing protests not even that long ago.
