vaxick
Looks straight out of a Hollywood movie. I cannot imagine living in an area of the county where a tornado warning can end up with this level of destruction.

CastlevaniaNut18
I saw last night where 2 were dead at a destroyed nursing home near my hometown. Waking up to this news earlier today was awful.

Fizzzzle
To anyone who might be saying "why didn't they have basements" - tornados are not really a common catastrophe in Kentucky. Kentucky is not flat. Usually tornadoes require a vast flat plain to form. That's why America and Australia are the only places in the planet where tornadoes regularly occur. We've actually had "tornadoes" in Portland over the last decade. Not like serious shit, but they've happened. Climate change.
Commissar SFLUFAN
Six confirmed fatalities at the Amazon warehouse; however, as authorities have deemed that there is "no hope" of locating any more survivors, it's now a recovery operation.

There was one in SLC, a city surrounded by mountains, about 20 years ago.

SuperSpreader
I mean it sounds terrible but tie disaster relief to paid family leave and force McConnell and Paul. This is the only leverage you'll ever get.

Also Western KY does have tornadoes commonly Tornado Alley is an outdated concept, research shows - The Washington Post WWW.WASHINGTONPOST.COM Twisters in the South and Southeast are just as common as in the Plains, and often more deadly. Mercury33
Tornados can happen in hilly areas. They happen in the northeast more frequently than you’d think. They just typically can’t escalate to massively destructive levels without wide open spaces. The ones in the northeast can knock over trees and maybe rip a roof off but they can’t level buildings. CayceG
@SaysWho? can confirm, but yeah, the landscape doesn't mean shit for tornado prevention. It's all about warm air, instability in the atmosphere, and atmospheric shear. All of that can happen in a lot of places--most notably from the Great Plains all the way to the Appalachian Mountains. The Mt Washington area of Pittsburgh had a really bad tornado about 20 years ago.

Why should I have a tornado shelter when I've never died from a tornado before? Stay home if you're so scared! Don't give red states any ideas. They'll hire Elon Musk to build giant air cannons that will shoot a billion cubic meters of air towards tornados to divert them from towns. In the process they'll create even larger plow winds that will devastate other towns, but those other towns could have created their own anti-wind wind cannons to defend themselves. That's the free market.
