Bloodporne
Should be interesting. My immediate relatives are all voting SPD it seems. I'm not terribly well-versed in German politics anymore unfortunately.

The German chancellor is the equivalent of the British/Canadian Prime Minister. It's like a Canadian election, if Canada's Parliament was proportional representation instead of first past the post. And in this analogy, the SPD would be kind of like the NDP mixed with the left-wing of the Liberal party, while Merkel's CDU is more like the moderate wing of the Liberals mixed with red Tory's (old Progressive Conservatives). THat's my take, anyway. Basically, the centre-right who have ruled Germany for a generation (and who would be considered left-wing in the US) are losing ground to an actual left-wing party (who would be considered...Soviets in the US?) The SPD leads the conservatives in polls and its candidate Olaf Scholz, currently finance minister, brushed off verbal attacks from Armin Laschet on his record on tackling money-laundering and whether he would ally with a far-left party. A snap poll for ARD television taken soon after the 90 minute debate showed that 41% of those asked thought Scholz was the most convincing performer, compared to 27% for Laschet and 25% for the Greens candidate, Annalena Baerbock. Commissar SFLUFAN
The SPD appears to have narrowly edged the CDU/CSU. Projections give Social Democrats narrow election lead WWW.DW.COM The center-left Social Democrats are ahead of the conservative CDU/CSU bloc by around 1%, according to initial projected results. In such a tight race, the possibilities for a coalition are still unclear.
Commissar SFLUFAN
The Greens and liberal, market-oriented FDP are going to be the "kingmakers" for any possible coalition and considering that they don't particularly like each other, I have no idea how the SPD is going to form a government anytime before Christmas. Commissar SFLUFAN
Germany: Berlin locals vote to expropriate housing giants WWW.DW.COM Berliners cast their referendum votes on whether to nationalize thousands of housing units owned by real estate giants. After counting all votes, over 56% voted in favor of the measure. Quote Voters in the German capital, Berlin, alongside casting ballots for the makeup of the new German parliament and for their local legislature, also took part in a referendum on whether to force large real estate companies to sell off most of their housing units. The "yes" vote garnered 56.4% while the "no" vote received 39% in the non-binding referendum.
CitizenVectron
Low-income rental housing should be an entirely public sector. However, the vote was non-binding, so it goes to Berlin's city council (who do not have to act).

Commissar SFLUFAN
A coalition agreement between the SPD, Greens, and FDP has finally been reached: German parties agree coalition deal to make Olaf Scholz chancellor | Germany | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Social Democrat, Green and liberal parties agree to form government after two months of talks Quote Germany’s new three-way coalition government of Social Democrats, Greens and liberals has addressed the public for the first time, pledging to put climate protection at the top of its agenda but stressing its first priority was to control the coronavirus pandemic. Replacing Angela Merkel as chancellor after 16 years, Olaf Scholz of the Social Democrats used his opening speech to deliver a dramatic appeal to Germans to get vaccinated, announcing a seven-point plan to tackle the health emergency, which he called “very serious”, stressing that hospitals were close to capacity, and that his government would be considering the introduction of a vaccine mandate. The three parties, known as the “traffic light coalition” owing to their colours – red, green and yellow – hammered out the deal during two months of intense negotiations after the Social Democrats (SPD) won a slim margin in the 26 September national election. Under Scholz, the acting finance minister, as new chancellor, Annalena Baerbock of the Greens is widely expected to become foreign minister – the first female in the role – and Robert Habeck, her partner as co-leader of the party, will receive a new “super minister” role combining the economics ministry with environmental protection goals. Christian Lindner, leader of the pro-business Free Democrats (FDP), will become the new finance minister. Hubertus Heil of the SPD is reported to be the only minister from the old government – a grand coalition between the SPD and Merkel’s conservative CDU/CSU – who will retain his post, as labour minister.
