CastletonSnob
Even the best games ever made have THAT part, whether it's a level, a boss, puzzle, whatever, that are so annoying and frustrating that it brings the rest of the game down. For me, it's the Anor Londo Silver Knights in Dark Souls 1. If you try to block the arrows, you'll get knocked back, usually falling off the ledge and to your death. You just have to get lucky and make the Knight on the right fall off the ledge.

XxEvil AshxX
Just played Fable III and the final act effectively ruined that entire game. Everything screeched to a halt so i could grind out money for a few hours for a final boss i killed in literally 30 seconds. Such a letdown. silentbob
If I were still an 11/12 year old boy. My answer would easily be the Monkey Swing/Log Jump from the classic The Lion King game. It was the most frustrating thing ever when I was young. When I finally beat it I was assumed to be the only one who could beat it for my then really young brother and sister. Game also got a little easier if you had the 6 button controller on the Genesis system. One extra top button press and you could do adult Simba’s flip without pressing all 3 buttons on the default system bundled controller. Bloodporne
I always remember the original Dead Space having some stupid-ass asteroid shooting segment from a cockpit. I must've failed it three times at least. It was stupid AND difficult. Also any game with a 'protect someone's life bar' segment.

vaxick
More of a blanket statement, but developers need to stop including escort missions in good games. Nobody likes the action halted for a timed event while you have to protect somebody doing something such as repairing a shield. It's not fun, and nobody ever goes, wow, what an incredible experience that was. Everybody just looks forward to it being over because they're stressful and annoying. I'm pretty sure you can figure out a better way to artificially extend the length of a game.

crispy4000
The Key Hunt in Metroid Prime 2. No, I shouldn't be forced to track down 9 new invisible things scattered across the map I've already explored to beat the game.

Xbob42
Invulnerability phases in fights. Many games have them, MMOs are the worst about them. Sometimes enemies just become immune to damage for no reason so a phase transition can happen or dialogue can be shat onto you. If they can arbitrarily go immune, why don't they do it whenever they want? I hate it so much.

Xbob42
Just now, Bacon said: I often blow my load when doing Prae when Ultima weapon is invuln. Doesn't matter really, but I keep forgetting. I was thinking of the same thing, as a matter of fact. Technically speaking the first part it isn't even immune, just takes like 99% reduced damage. I usually play as a white mage, so I use my presence of mind (+30% cast speed, 3 minute cooldown) instinctually the second the fight starts... only to realize as soon as my first spell lands that I've made a terrible mistake. In the end it doesn't really matter, probably doesn't even slow the kill down by 1%, but it feels so bad.
Bloodporne
I'll also add any enemy encounter in Dark Descent and SOMA. I really enjoyed both games but the encounters are steaming hot trial-and-error shit.
Paperclyp
Wind Waker fetch quest. Last 1/3 of Bioshock. Mario 1 water levels. For some reason the first like 4 hours of Dark Souls 3 really grind my gears. Perhaps blasphemy but I actually think LTTP has major pacing issues for a game with broad GOAT consideration, but I did play it way after the fact. I've come to the conclusion that pretty much most games, including all my favorite ones, have pacing issues. It's something I always criticize and then realized it was difficult to even come up with games that don't. It's the cousin of 'this game shits the bed by the end', which is also seemingly most games including the ones I love.

Fair points to both of you. But from my personal experience (and many others) Ocarina of Time's Water Temple was such a headache the first time around. Brought the whole game to a screeching halt. I found that the Water Temple in Majora's Mask to be much more enjoyable. And I'm kinda "meh" on the Lakebed Temple in Twilight Princess. I don't hate that one, but I certainly don't love it, either. It definitely does have it's high points thanks to its mid-boss and Temple Boss, since both were kind of awesome.
