gamer.tv
I went for a walk the other day with my wife, daughter and dog and as happens on a walk, we were chatting. Some background to this discussion - we have an allotment that we use to grow some vegetables and herbs as a bit of fun. I asked whether we would ever be able to get to the point of being self sufficient and how we’d achieve that. That led to a more realistic discussion about aiming to be carbon neutral in the near future (or as close to it as we could be) and wha would need to happen for that. This led me to query whether we should try a period of time where we unsubscribe from any streaming and video game apps, limit television to something we both agree on and where possible, try to stop using electricity except for essentials. Now, with an 8 month old some of that is not possible, but I am very tempted to remove any streaming services, just to see how I would spend my extra 3 hours or so a day, maybe more. Have you ever made a significant lifestyle change at all, any successes?

Not shitting on you but what is it you are hoping to gain by doing this?
Commissar SFLUFAN
I've pretty much reduced my meat consumption to one meal per week and that meat is usually lamb which is one of the more sustainable forms.

I want to change the way that I spend my free time. At the moment I spend it either playing games, watching television (new and reruns), reading, parenting and exercising. I think that if I take out the watching element (which bar the odd great film or television programme isn’t that fulfilling) will hopefully provide me more scope to do other things, or increase or improve the quality of my current pursuits. I just find that in the morning, I’ll watch television for maybe 45-60 minutes, mostly the news and then a few hours in the evening. I just wonder how I’d fill that time if I had to. I've gone through vegetarian/vegan phases on and off for the last decade. It doesn't usually last all that long, but I've found that every time I start eating meat again, I eat less. Most red meat straight up gives me trouble guts these days. Breaking people away from eating some form of meat every meal of every day might be one of the more important cultural goals we can actually achieve. For myself, I got rid of basically all social media except for youtube and reddit, which are both essentially anonymous. I've found that I'm generally happier when I'm not wrapped up in Facebook beef.
AlwaysDyingX
Lol God no. Maybe exercise more but that's about it. I know how I spend my free time is frivolous and I give nothing to society but I'm really good with that. And all you vegans, don't worry I bought a new smoker/grill so I'll cook enough meat to make up for what you gave up. 1

Best
I stopped drinking, smoking weed, and stopped watching porn/masturbating. That's 3 big ones. My life has improved dramatically. I also read the Bible each night, too. There are obviously down days because losing my twin brother is the worse pain I think I can imagine a human suffering. I read it's more painful than a mother losing their child. So yea.
Ominous
You watch 3 hours of tv a day? I don't think I watch that much in a week most weeks. I changed my diet and started exercising regularly, that's about it.
