The three-day war to take Kyiv has resulted in...Russia abandoning border positions against NATO countries:

Apparently a bunch of Russian officials were in North Korea begging for more aid and the DPRK people ordered the Russians out of the room so Kim Jong-un could enter first.

The deal was made as the Russian president visited North Korea for the first time in 24 years, a visit that showcased their personal and geopolitical ties with Kim hugging...

Also, big news: US will announce later today it is cancelling all worldwide orders for Patriot systems and missiles. All production will now be diverted to Ukraine.

I assume this is because F-16s are arriving soon, and Russia will do everything to take them down, including their air bases.

The US appears to have expanded its agreement with Ukraine to strike over the border inside Russian territory wherever Russian forces are engaging in cross-border attacks into Ukraine, not just in the Kharkiv region as was previously determined.

Ukraine may now be able to strike anywhere in Russia as long as Russia is using that area/forces to attack Ukraine.

  • CitizenVectron changed the title to Россия invades Україна | UPDATE (20 June 2024) - US will now allow Ukraine to use American weapons anywhere in Russia, if the Russian targets are attacking Ukraine

Ukraine has continued to strike an oil facility or two every few days with long-range drones, usually in the 150-300km range of the border. Last week an oil facility was burning for 3 days straight, and it was thought to have been fuel trucks. Turns out the actual oil storage facility of the port was taken out. So that's one less oil export port for the Azov/Black Seas.

The Biden administration is moving towards lifting a de facto ban on American military contractors deploying to Ukraine, four US officials familiar with the matter told CNN, to help the country’s military maintain and repair US-provided weapons systems.

To be clear, these are traditional contractors (who repair stuff), not mercenaries.

Russia appears to have destroyed a UNESCO heritage site in Crimea and turned it into a theatre, shipping some of the items back to Russia:

It was an ancient Greek colony in Ukraine, founded around 600 BC.

Wow. This would triple the number of Patriot systems in Ukraine. It's believed they currently have 4 full systems deployed, with another 2 on the way. Plus all US contracts for missiles have been diverted to Ukraine.

Transfer of up to eight batteries would mark shift in Israel’s relations with Moscow

Quote

The US, Israel and Ukraine are in talks to supply Kyiv with up to eight Patriot air defence systems, dramatically improving its ability to counter Russian air strikes. While not finalised, the arrangement would likely involve the highly prized Patriot systems being sent first from Israel to the US, before being delivered to Ukraine.

The outlines of the deal, which would mark a shift in Israel's relations with Moscow, have been discussed between ministers and senior officials of the three countries, according to five people briefed on the negotiations. Israel said in April that it would begin retiring its eight Patriot batteries, which date back more than 30 years, and replacing them with more advanced systems.

Everytime I read about Ukraine getting more Patriots I get this wild rush of nostalgia. My father worked on the Patriot assembly line after his stint in the Army. Really wish I still had my model Patriot system Raytheon gave all the kids of parents that worked for them back in the 80s.

Washington may soon reconsider its previous decision and allow Kyiv to use U.S.-made weapons to strike targets up to 300 kilometers inside Russia. — Ukrinform.

Good. And I hope with the US election not looking so great at the moment, that Biden just dumps everything on Ukraine this fall, rather than trickling out over the next 2-years as planned.
