Best
I just recently beat that game for my 2nd playthrough. If nobody has played GOW now is the time to do it! That's awesome news.

Bloodporne
That game already looked fantastic, damn. Tempted to download it sometime just to check it out with the patch.
Dodger
Sweet though I'm near the end of my playthrough. Might have to start it up again because I'm really enjoying it. We're still waiting for TLOU2 to get a PS5 update right? Been wanting to get back into that next but figure I should hold off until that gets updated. TwinIon
One of the few games I might consider playing through again. The upgraded performance modes have made a huge difference with Spider-Man.
SaysWho?
My guess has been that Horizon Forbidden West or God of War Ragnarok (or whatever it'll be called) will get delayed, and I'm planning to replay the preceding game based on that. But who knows, maybe I'll get an itch to go through GOW even earlier.

Maybe they can patch out all the bloated “open” sections, the flashbacks, and bullshit storytelling false flags, and focus on the 5 hours of legitimately good gameplay? Now THAT would be a remaster! 1

Dodger
Well if R&C comes out by like Memorial Day they can still claim it to be a launch window game. But if that's the case we'd be hearing about a release day any day now.
Paperclyp
I might replay GOW when the sequel is a little closer to release. I didn’t love it, but it was a good time.

Combat is good but it didn't evolve in a satisfying way to me. Spoilers I guess? I'll keep it somewhat vague. I thought the story overall was very uneven. Drags majorly in some parts. I did not like how they handled the Atreus arc once he finds how who he is. I didn't buy his turnaround either, it all happened too quickly. It was also a victim of hype for me. The review hype was literally like "this is one of the best games ever and it makes everything about the best games better, better" level of hype. And it was like - yeah this is good, great in presentation and production values even. But as a video game it's just good. And that's good! Just didn't equate to loving the game to me. Chris-
The biggest flaw IMO was the world design...Maybe this isn’t fair, but I disliked how unconnected all the areas felt. Introducing Zelda/Metroidvania area progression was cool, but when I had to go down the same linear path to get back to something I could now access, it just felt stilted. They basically forced the concept of an open-world into a linear hub-and-spoke, and it didn’t feel fun to navigate or explore.
stepee
Man, I feel totally the opposite about GOW. I thought the world design was masterful with secrets everywhere and every inch of it seemed to have value to it. It is such a tight design that I rank it super high in just general excellent game design of the greats.
Man_of_X
To each is own of course, but GOW isn't just "good". I absolutely loved it. I had started a new game +, but I may start that over with this performance boost.

Kal-El814
The camera in GOW is generally fine but occasionally VERY bad. One, maybe two of the Valkyrie fights in particular were made needlessly difficult (on the hardest difficulty at least) only because the camera angle was poor. Some of the flying enemies were pretty bad to manage the camera against as well. I appreciate that the game hided loading times behind the sometimes very entertaining / always very well acted storytime sequences... but there’s a LOT of downtime in the game because of it. I don’t know that it ever really earned its openness... I don’t think it hurt the game overall but I dunno that it was necessarily better for it, either. For a game where most of the hook is the fighting, I felt like an awful lot of the combat upgrades just weren’t that useful or compelling. Also for a game where the main thing stopping the protagonists completing what would otherwise be a somewhat leisurely journey is the combat... we’re never really given a compelling reason for why anyone is fucking with Kratos at all? We learn who Baldur was looking for at the start, but that doesn’t really explain why almost everyone and everything else tries to kill them on sight. All that said, I’ll fire it up on the PS5 to poke around with the updates, I don’t think I ever did a NG+ run.
Bloodporne
Regarding the world design, I really, really enjoyed the idea of accessing new areas by lowering the water level. Cool shit being under the water is such a satisfying exploration concept. The inner kid in me wonders what's down there every time I see a body of water. In general, I thought the world and level design were great with the exception of those super frequent 'funnel' areas where you either squeeze through cracks or engage in climbing which bafflingly enough has been boring as hell since the very first game and they just can't stop including it. I thought it was a really great game on my first playthrough. Second time around I noticed just how frequently the game hits the brakes on you with walking & talking etc. and it definitely started getting on my nerves a bit. Also, some of the RPG elements and loot can often feel like irritating micromanagement to me. Some of the armor and so on felt pretty useless. Again it’s always well acted, but by the end of the game... I fucking get it, Kratos sucks at storytelling. God of War 2 is probably still the best in the series. It’s less ambitious than some of the stuff that came after it but I think it’s the best at understanding what it wanted to be and really focusing on delivering that specifically. God of War 2018 is almost always very good, it’s just a bit too ambitious and a bit unfocused.

I replayed it a few years back and it was just as good as when it came out and a great balance like you said. It's just an extremely fun game that does everything it does really well. Rodimus
I remember this game pre patch played 60fps only with the disc version unpatched. But this seems better. I still can’t get a hold of a PS5.

They took a world that was much smaller than worlds like Witcher or Horizon, but they really layered it where you always feel like you're discovering something, from a place on your map that looks like you could visit it, to small things like destructible items hanging around or a side path that ends up having a fantastic Runic attack in it.

Playing through the game again this week and while I enjoy it, definitely half the combat upgrades felt lacking. Plus the balance is all off. I didn't use half the combat abilities, though to be honest I just played on normal so maybe some of those are needed on very hard. Then you open all these chests that dump all these runics on you, except for most of the game you can't really switch between them since you don't get enough xp until the end where the game realizes it's been super stingy and just showers you with xp every time you fart. For me it's a definitely a game that while it's very good, it does fuck up enough that it's not one of the greatest games of all time. Plus it has the same problem as the first game, where are the fucking boss fights? It does the same damn thing, gives you a cool boss fight in the beginning of the game, then you get one real boss in the middle and apparently fuck all until the end. A random Ancient or Traveler doesn't count. Edit-I totally forgot about the dragon, but even that is more of a tutorial on using that sap with shock arrows. Bacon
I really liked GOW 2018. Even said it was too good to rent. And while it is good, at lot of my positive impressions came from finally getting something new. After I have spent some time away from it I don't like it nearly as much. The story is still great for me, but there are too many things I disliked. The main story levels were short and there were two locked areas that brought nearly nothing to the game. Like, the game needed more zones with actual content. Another issue is the bosses. There was no variety. 50% of the bosses were just Trolls and 30% were Valkyries which I think were all optional. The other bosses were just too easy and were more like cinematic bosses. The dragon, the brothers, and the final boss were there more for story and coolness than to be actual bosses. You definitely don’t need those moves on the hardest difficulty, either. It’s been a while since I played, but I remember my issue being that a lot of the moves seemed to increase your positioning ability, either by kicking you back, or pushing enemies back... and I just never felt like any enemy required that level of management. It’s still a very good game, I just don’t think it’s a masterpiece or anything. Its reception confirms my bias that showing strong men who have genuine emotional bonds with other characters is all a game needs to get a glowing reception for its characters which says an awful lot about our standards for games, media, and men... And if you put that in an well produced game people you can just rake in the awards.
