The raid of the home of Brianna Suggs, a consultant with close ties to the mayor, came as Mr. Adams canceled a series of meetings in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Thursday searched the Brooklyn home of Mayor Eric Adams's chief fund-raiser, Brianna Suggs, a campaign consultant who is deeply entwined with efforts to advance the mayor's agenda, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.

The raid apparently prompted Mr. Adams to abruptly cancel several meetings scheduled for Thursday morning in Washington, D.C., to talk to White House officials and members of Congress about the influx of migrants in New York and other major cities. Instead, he hurriedly returned to New York "to deal with a matter," a spokesman for the mayor said.

Ms. Suggs, who could not immediately be reached for comment, is an essential cog in Mr. Adams's fund-raising machine, which has already raised more than $2.5 million for his 2025 re-election campaign.

A third person with knowledge of the raid said agents from one of the public corruption squads in the F.B.I.'s New York office questioned Ms. Suggs during the search of her home.

An F.B.I. spokesman confirmed that "we are at that location carrying out law enforcement action," referring to Ms. Suggs's home in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn.

I am mayor because God gave me the authority to be mayor, and he placed in the hearts of the voters to give me that authority. Sometimes we miss how God operates, but I am clear when I receive my blessings from God.

Mayor Eric Adams warned of "extremely painful" budget cuts to offset hundreds of millions of dollars in cost from sheltering and providing services for migrants.
Quote

"If the circumstances don't change dramatically, city agencies will be forced to reduce city funded spending by 5% two more times within the next six months," he said. "That will mean disruptions to the services we all rely on."

Summons accuses Adams of sexual assault and employment discrimination in 1993 while he and plaintiff worked for the city

Quote

The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has been accused of sexual assault in a court filing submitted on late Wednesday.

The summons against Adams alleges that the plaintiff “was sexually assaulted by Defendant Eric Adams in New York, New York in 1993 while they both worked for the City of New York”.

It was filed under the Adult Survivors Act, a New York state law which provided a one-year “look-back” window for adult sexual misconduct accusers to file civil lawsuits that previously would have been barred due to the statute of limitations.

The window expires on 24 November.

The summons adds that the accusations concerns “sexual assault, battery and employment discrimination on the basis of Plaintiff’s gender and sex, retaliation, hostile work environment and intentional infliction of emotional distress”.

Asked about the allegation, a city hall spokesperson said: “The mayor does not know who this person is. If they ever met, he doesn’t recall it.”

The accuser’s attorney, Megan Goddard, said: “Goddard Law is thankful for the Adult Survivors Act, which has given so many women the opportunity to seek justice. We are immensely proud of our clients and all the women who are seeking justice under the ASA. We are also thankful that the legislature may be considering reopening the window because so many victims of sexual assault are only finding out about the ASA now.”

Edward A. Caban, the New York City police commissioner, resigned on Thursday at the request of City Hall, which had asked him to step aside after federal agents seized his phone last week as part of a criminal investigation.

In an email to members of the Police Department, Commissioner Caban, 57, said that the news reports about the investigations had “created a distraction for the department.”

Lisa Zornberg, the chief counsel to Mayor Eric Adams of New York, suddenly stepped down on Saturday.

Mayor Eric Adams’s counsel and chief legal adviser, Lisa Zornberg, abruptly resigned on Saturday — a major departure from the administration at a time when the mayor and his inner circle face an onslaught of federal investigations.

Ms. Zornberg, a former senior Manhattan federal prosecutor in the office that is currently conducting three separate corruption investigations into the mayor and some of his senior aides, has been a fierce defender of Mr. Adams over the past 10 months. She encouraged New Yorkers not to rush to judgment after the first investigation — into the mayor’s campaign fund-raising — came to light.

Two now-retired chiefs from the FDNY were arrested early Monday morning following a yearlong corruption investigation, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

Two now-retired chiefs from the New York City Fire Department were arrested early Monday morning following a yearlong corruption investigation, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

Retired Chief Brian Cordasco was arrested at home on Staten Island. Retired Chief Anthony Saccavino was arrested at home in Manhattan, the sources said.

Saccavino and Cordasco "repeatedly abused their positions of trust as high-ranking officials in the New York City Fire Department" by soliciting and accepting tens of thousands of dollars in bribe payments in exchange for providing preferential treatment to certain individuals and companies, according to an indictment unsealed Monday in Manhattan federal court.

The two men were chiefs with the FDNY Bureau of Fire Prevention, which regulates the installation of fire safety and suppression systems in commercial and residential buildings. For nearly two years, the indictment said, Saccavino and Cordasco misused this authority for their own financial gain.

Federal prosecutors said they “abused their power” to give priority to a vital city service -- safety inspections -- to those willing to pay.

Federal prosecutors investigating Mayor Eric Adams and his campaign’s ties to Turkey issued subpoenas in July for records related to 5 other countries.

Federal prosecutors investigating whether Mayor Eric Adams conspired with the Turkish government to funnel illegal foreign donations into his campaign have recently sought information about interactions with five other countries, people with knowledge of the matter said.

The demand for information related to the other countries — Israel, China, Qatar, South Korea and Uzbekistan — was made in expansive grand jury subpoenas issued in July to City Hall, the mayor and his campaign, the people said. The prosecutors’ focus on the other five countries has not been previously reported.

The unexplained and unexpected search comes as the administration of Mayor Eric Adams reels from other federal law enforcement investigations.

Thomas Donlon, who became the interim commissioner just one week ago after the resignation of his predecessor, issued a statement late Saturday through the police department.

“On Friday, September 20, federal authorities executed search warrants at my residences. They took materials that came into my possession approximately 20 years ago and are unrelated to my work with the New York City Police Department,” the statement said.

“This is not a department matter, and the department will not be commenting,” he added.

The statement did not address what the investigation was about, which federal authorities were involved or what materials had been seized.

David C. Banks, the chancellor of New York City’s public school system, said on Tuesday that he would resign from his post at the end of December.

The announcement came just weeks after federal agents seized Mr. Banks’s phone as part of a bribery investigation involving his brothers and fiancée — and it promised to roil not just the nation’s largest school system but also a mayoral administration already reeling from at least four separate federal corruption inquiries
