I'm all but certain that we can partially attribute the disaster in the Texas Rio Grande Valley to the notion of a weak COVID-influenced Democratic "ground game"
Ricofoley
Definitely seems like there was a slight but noticeable shift on the ol' Twitter timeline today from "This all just about stroking Trump's ego on his way out the door" towards "Okay, they might actually be doing a coup"
SaysWho?
6 minutes ago, Jason said: Sure but I'm thinking about this beyond Nevada. Other states maybe swing the other way if the Democratic ground game isn't hampered by the pandemic. It's a pity there was a pandemic for a billion reasons, but from just the election POV, because there's always going to be theories/discussions and maybe even studies about how much of the underperformance in Congress was due to limited ground game versus messaging/debates/types of campaigns. Was Susan Collins just in a much strong position in Maine, or did the ground game affect that race? Same in North Carolina. Wade mentioned the Rio Grande area, and IIRC, canvassing works to get some of those voters who don't vote as much, out to the polls.
Massdriver
A part of me is happy Trump is trying this half assed coup so I can watch him lose in a more drawn out manner. The other part is disappointed since our country is officially 3rd world now.
Ricofoley
What I'm thinking about a lot right now is the letter from the entire Republican party of Georgia to the Secretary of State telling him to resign, basically for allowing the Democrats to win the election. Apparently this guy has higher ambitions, and he wants to make a run for Governor at some point. Given this, how we can possibly trust that he's going to fairly oversee the January runoffs now given that the expectation from this own party is basically that he guarantees a Republican victory?

He told them to fuck off and publicly at that, but its a weird strategy in a state that flipped for Biden to double down on Trump who lost likely because of these shenanigans, and should keep dem enthusiasm to vote high especially off of the presidential election win, but honestly who the fuck knows anymore. Ricofoley
He's telling them to fuck off for now. He's gonna be one of the biggest targets of the entire right-wing media machine for the next month and a half now. I hope he knows what he's in for. In the RGV at the very least it would've made an attempt to blunt the GOP's ground game in the area. As it stands, the GOP had that entire phase of the campaign all to themselves as the Democrats had essentially "ceded the field" to them. mclumber1
"Defund the police" was a stupid fucking motto and I absolutely think it cost the Dems tens of thousands of votes in key battleground states. Stupid. Fucking. Motto.
Fizzzzle
2 minutes ago, SaysWho? said: That last one kills me. It's a result of deliberate misinformation campaigns from conservatives. NO ONE is saying we don't need police (well, a few people have, but you get crazies in every bunch). If you actually explain to people what "defund the police" ACTUALLY means (reducing police funding and reallocating it to social services and other agencies to reduce police presence in community conflict... very well said), the vast majority of people are all for it. They just get scared by more dishonest conservative tactics like "THEY WANT TO LET MEXICANS RAPE YOUR CAT!!" It's like... no, we just think maybe it's better for mental health specialists and the like to show up to certain conflicts rather than trigger happy cops who see people as the enemy. And also maybe traffic cops don't need guns. There are absolutely situations in which we'd have to call in the shooty police, they just shouldn't be called for every single incident. stepee
i like how right now the best case scenario we are looking at is that trump is just pretending that he’s going to stage a coup to rally people up, not that he is actually going to stage a coup, I guess we hit that part of our history now then

Fizzzzle
Well, I mean you could argue that you don't need a "slogan" to begin with, but "reallocate some police resources to mental health and community projects and maybe take some of the guns away and also cops should face consequences for their actions" isn't as catchy.
