Sanders talks about Finland as more representative of his democratic socialism, but goes way out of his way to say that there were good aspects to an authoritarian regime. He just can't shake his lust for authoritarian leftists.

A guy whose tweet was shared here pretty much praised Batista to show that Castro was bad.

Last I saw he was cruising to victory; but even in a dead heat it can't be counted on. Not with the voter suppression. Same for Florida; it might just come down to how many former felons will be able to cast a ballot.

You saw one outlier poll, Quinnipiac.

So? Sanders has plenty of other countries he can praise that have similar policies to his. This is a pattern. He likes authoritarian leftists.

You make it seem like he's going around praising Fidel at every chance. That is dishonest.

So?

Why is someone saying things were great during the dictator's reign before Castro? Did you think about why said person did and why Bernie might outside of your fears? It wasn't that long ago that people were arguing over why Cuba's health care had advantages over ours around the time Sicko released.

I don’t think Phil Lord is praising Batista, he’s rightly saying that crediting Castro for positive things in Cuba makes little sense given that Cuba was already good on those fronts prior to Castro. Praising Cuba under Castro for those things only serves to downplay the evils of the Castro regime. But Phil is the DOJ of Cuban refugees, he has a different POV than most of us.

It's easily digestible by the voters though.  Replace Fidel with Mao.  Or Chavez.  Or Soviet leaders.  Bernie has got a gold mine of favorable language towards some of the most autocratic shitheads in modern history.

And it won't make a fuck all of difference against Donald "love letters to Kim Jong Un" Trump

In order to talk about how much better things were prior to Castro, you have to say or imply that many things were good under Batista. What people want to do is link Sanders to something like Venezuela instead of Finland or Denmark; he's saying, that's not me, and under your system, many things are worse than under these dictatorships.

And based on b_m's find, I'm pretty sure all of us understand this. :p

Bruh, you got a list of oppo links in a google sheet for each of us, don’t you

I still remember Engel's declaration after the second debate that Romney would win the election. Sometimes, comments like that stick with you!

And before you have a little fit, maybe realize that the world isn't so cut and dry good guys and bad guys and that the Castro regime is a product of and reaction to us imperial interests in Latin America

Sanders is praising a country that took power through a violent revolution. I was talking about a guy that I called a piece of shit that won an election, and I was very narrowly hoping for some good while acknowledging the terrible. I have never praised any violent populist movements or regimes here in the 2 decades I have been posting. Sanders has praised leftist dictators throughout his life, honeymooned in the USSR, and on and on. I am well aware that there is nuance in these countries, and you just showed that you don't understand the difference in what I said and what your boy Sanders says.

As for the ethics of it all, I'm sure we could each write a thesis. but explaining and understanding why something came about doesn't mean you justified it morally. Castro was a piece of shit. Sanders is going out of his way when he doesn't have to to praise the guy.

I didn't mean to make it sound that way. Sanders seems to praise aspects of leftist authoritarian regimes when he is asked about it and will often support them remaining in power when they clearly shouldn't be. He isn't running on this, but it will be exploited, and he doesn't have to say what he says. He could focus on European social democracy, but he chooses to go out of his way to praise regimes that are supposed to be inconsistent with his own ideas.

Voted in Texas early  before the Nevada results, but regret going Butti. I should have pulled it for Biden, as I think he has the best chance to stop Bernie now. It likely won't matter either way. I also voted center lane Democrat across the board, including MJ for Senate and Ceullar for Rep.

If this place had downvotes, I can't imagine what my posts would get! :p

I personally think it’s fine to acknowledge good things bad people do and bad things good people do. It’s all part of the story, though I can understand why somebody who is the victim or even child of a victim of a oppressive regime has no patience for any positive characterization of their oppressor.
