Scott
There's really not a downside. Yeah, you don't know how right wing politics work, do you? All someone needs to do is take a video of Tucker's "interview" with Warren or Bernie and add a header caption saying "Tucker Carlson puts on his Christianity Knight Armor and Slays Socialists!" and it gets shared by Uncle Sam's Misguided Children on Facebook 10,000 times to a bunch of boomers. Signifyin(g)Monkey
Everyone in Iowa will read this editorial and break late for Yang in a landslide, realizing he’s the most electable candidate. You heard it here first. Thence why #YangBeatsTrump is trending on Twitter. Quote The latest Emerson College poll of New Hampshire, released Tuesday, showed every 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, with the exception of Senator Elizabeth Warren, beating Trump in a theoretical match up in the state. In a hypothetical 2020 head-to-head, Trump trailed Yang — currently sixth among Democrats with an overall average of roughly 2.7 percent — by eight points in New Hampshire with 46 percent, while the former tech executive garnered 54 percent of votes.Biden was the only other candidate who fared better against Trump than Yang. The former vice president, currently leading the Democratic field in most polls, garnered 55 percent in a head to head against Trump, who came out 10 points behind with 45 percent in New Hampshire.

Massdriver
Yang is pretty weird and cool (and sometimes wrong), but imagine how much more you could get out that same tax revenue if you means tested UBI into a negative income tax and wage subsides. Yeah, ironically his UBI is the policy I’m least focused on—especially now that I think the ‘data as labor’ payment model I’ve been talking about in recent threads is a superior solution to the same problem. But many of his other economic policies are actually better and more innovative than Warren’s, IMO—and the stuff about tweaking how we measure growth tugs at my heartstrings. GDP, while originally an ingenious and indispensable invention, is now an antiquated and wholly inadequate measure of an overall society’s economic well-being and if we targeted other measures with our policies we’d have more equitable, broader-based growth. At any rate, I’m still suspicious of Warren’s chances against Trump. It’s not just the healthcare stuff—I just think she might not resonate culturally with the electorate. And most people vote with their cultural ‘gut’, not their policy ‘brain’. As Andrew Sullivan said: Quote Elizabeth Warren is unelectable as president. There. I said it...But she may well get the nomination. She has that quintessential perfume of smug, well-meaning, mediocre doom that Democrats simply cannot resist. Yang’s got an Obama-ish appeal to him—inspiring to young people, running an overwhelmingly positive campaign rather than just a Trump revenge porn play, with the outsider appeal Trump had. (which I still think the general public has a hunger for) And his status as an entrepreneur probably calms the nerves of centrists who are cool with leftish policies but are worried about ‘socialism’. b_m_b_m_b_m
I like a lot of what Yang brings to the table, not ubi though, and his block chain voting systems comments were just lol. That said, he'd only be slightly more effective than Trump, and only because he would probably let himself be overtaken by the party apparatus because he has no support inside Washington whatsoever, and he doesn't appear to have the glaring character flaws that dominate this administration

CitizenVectron
There's victim blaming and then there is smart advice. I know we've gone over this topic a million times here, but saying something like "police reform is needed, and violence on their part is 100% their fault, but in the meantime be aware that they can be easily set off and do your best not be in a situation where they will be set off" is not victim blaming, even if it reflects the sad reality of American race relations. Situations like playing video games inside your own home. Situations like eating a bowl of ice cream inside your own home. Situations like telling a police officer of the existence of your lawfully carried weapon during a traffic stop. Situations like walking around a store with merchandise that a white person gets scared of. Situations like being a 12 year old boy who gets ambushed in the park. This is the sort of thing white people just need to stop saying about black people and police encounters.
