  1. Finished Retribution last night and that's a new nonfiction favorite. I'm now starting Robert E Lee and Me: A Southerner's Reckoning with the Myth of the Lost Cause by Ty Seidule.
  2. @SoberChef, yeah, that was me. I first went with the Wusthof 6" chef's knife and I love it. It's my go to knife now. I also order some knives from this site called The cooking Guild and I've really liked them so far, too. They're high carbon steel, so they require more care, but they're sharp and look great. I've liked them so far. Got an 8" chef's knife, a 5" petty knife, a fillet, and a hanta.
  3. Yeah, I have this giant tub of wagyu tallow that I'll try on fries at some point. I used it on the steaks tonight. Cost the same as the duck fat, but double the amount. I just felt like going all fancy this time.
  4. I've been expanding my cooking a little more lately, thanks to watching so many videos on friggin' FB and Instagram. And I love using my new cooking knives! Tonight was homemade fries in duck fat with salt, fresh parsley and parmesan cheese. I've never done my own fries before and these were easy and turned out great. Also my first time using duck fat. The main dish was a couple ribeyes that I swiped some wagyu beef tallow on before adding a little seasoning and tossing them on the grill. Husband and I were extremely please with this meal. The duck fat is expensive and a lot of calories in this one, so it won't be a regular thing, but it was a great indulgence. Any suggestions for other recipes using duck fat? I still have a decent bit and it expires in May.
  5. I think I’m gonna get back to Dying Light 2. Haven’t really played anything since beating Ragnarok just before Christmas.
  6. I’m just really glad I don’t have to worry about this anymore. Not that I really did. Dated one guy in high school, went badly, met my husband at 17 and the rest is history.
  7. Dunno why I didn't try this out before now. I'm 4 episodes in and hooked. I knew pretty much nothing going in, so at first, I thought Katey Segal's character was a loving mommy, then BOOM. She's gonna be good. I like having something to watch on my daily treadmill runs and this should fit the bill. I bet I blow through this pretty quickly. Who all here has seen it?
  8. I'm actually pretty jealous of what Atlanta has accomplished with their young talent. Ozuna aside, they're an easy team to root for.
  9. Well, I think my New Year's Resolution came true. I interviewed on the geriatric psych unit this morning and they said I should hear something by Monday. I woke up this evening to a text from HR asking me to call them back because the manager wanted to move forward with me. I am excited.
  10. I'm moving through Retribution pretty quickly, it's so good. Highly readable. Still got a couple hundred pages to go, but good chance I finish it on this 5 day off stretch I just started. For fiction, I started The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.
  11. I was looking for a new show to watch after finishing Vikings and I almost went with Yellowstone, but decided on Sons of Anarchy instead. So far I'm absolutely loving SOA, so I don't regret my choice, but I think Yellowstone with be up next. I might do 1893 or 1923 in the meantime.
  12. I have to a lot at my job, but I generally prefer texting people in my personal life.
  13. Red Sox have no middle infield after Story has elbow surgery. Sigh.
  14. We're switching to them until he mans up and gets snipped. I'm tired of being on BC. I'm 35 years old, it's time to stop. He's 38, it's time for a vasectomy.
  15. Bauer officially cut by LA. Wonder what team will want his talents...and controversy.
  16. Now reading the second book in the Viking Blood and Blade Saga: The Wrath of Ivar by Peter Gibbons. First one was entertaining, though whoever did the editing missed a lot of mistakes.
  17. I can't believe it! Now they need to build around him. I can finally buy that Devers jersey I've wanted for a while.
  18. Still working on Mortal Fear, it’s good. Started a new nonfiction this morning: Retribution: The Battle for Japan, 1944-45 by Max Hastings. @Commissar SFLUFAN gave it to me a few years ago and when I finally pulled it off the shelf to read this morning, I discovered it was an autographed copy. A pleasant surprise!
  19. That’s pretty much where I am these days. I’m not going to practice in an unsafe manner, but I don’t feel like being super nurse most of the time.
  20. The NFL is awful. I like football, but I’ve barely watched this season. I just feel more uncomfortable with the sport as time goes on. I really hope this guy makes a full recovery.
  21. Finishing the year with 112 books completed, a new record for me. Currently reading Mortal Fear by Greg Iles and The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough.
  22. Finally finished Vikings. I’ve been watching it for about a year, taking a few breaks. Overall, I liked it, though it really felt meandering a lot of the time. Some plot lines just seemed to add nothing and bored me. But there were some really great moments. And the last season, particularly the second half, was a really great ride with some truly amazing character moments. The ending nailed it, in my opinion. I went from hating Ivar, to sympathizing with him, back to a mix of love/hate. Honestly, he was a great character and the actor did a phenomenal job. In the end, I think Ubbe was my all around favorite. While it doesn’t come close to The Last Kingdom(tied with The Wire for being my favorite show ever), it was overall a really solid show with more ups than downs. And I love Viking history. I give this a solid 7.5/10. Im sure I’ll be watching Vikings: Valhalla in the near future.
