And I just bought Spiderman a few months ago, believing that Sony wouldn't charge for upgrades after all the different developers and publishers had been coming out confirming they would be offering Free next gen upgrades.

I haven't even fired it up yet, does Sony offer refunds for not played games?

That is kinda of an impressive cluster they have going on there.  So if you have the disc - then you can play the game if you get the disc version of the PS5.  If you get the DE you are out of luck.  If you have a digital copy it will play on any PS5.  However you will be playing the PS4 version on the PS5.  Apparently if you want the remaster version you have to buy it separate.  Maybe they will offer some form of a $10 upgrade... since that is the difference in cost.

Pretty big mess for a first party game.

It allowed them to have a headline of PS5 $399.99.  And the press are basically running with it.

"Sony Wins Again" with $399.99 price tag.

I'm not sure they needed that.  They were always going to 'win' this fall in system sales.

I'm pretty sure Sony is taking a hit on DE so they must really want to push the more expensive version.

They really should have just focused all their manufacturing on the disc version and announced the DE was coming next March.  They were always going to sell out this first shipment immediately no matter what they put out there.

You know I started Wastland 3 as well without playing Wasteland 1 or 2... I think I may put Wasteland 3 on hold and start 2

I actually attempted 2 a couple of months ago, but I tried it on my xbox from the couch and I couldn't get into it.  I may have liked it better from my PC.  Maybe I will give it another shot when I am done with 3.

  5. If we are posting awesome gaming stuff here - I am currently about 3/4 of the way through Wasteland 3. I haven't played any of the previous games in the series, but damn this one is great. The action is similar to xcom. It has a ton of loot to gather and upgrade. Almost everything is customizable. The random encounters start off like a D&D game. You can tell the people who made this love games. Highly recommend it - and it is available on gamepass.

    Dean Winchester GIF

Ha.  I don't really care, but a few months ago it was the big talking point.  Remember the whole "Sony believes in generations of hardware" talk.  That was all based around this game and how the speed of the game swinging through the streets could not have been accomplished on PS4.

I'm not starting a war.  PS5 had a great show and tons of good looking games.  Good price to go with it.  PS fans have a lot to be excited for.

The studios are holding most of that close to the vest, but the gossip is that these "Theater at Home" things over performed in April and May, and have slowly tailed off since. There seems to generally be a drop off in home entertainment right now, and a lot of the survey data is showing people are just tired of being at home and watching TV as their primary form of entertainment. Even the pro-sports leagues have been down on viewership. At the same time, people are being cautious with what they are willing to go do outside the home, so the theaters that have reopened (minus drive ins) are struggling to get butts in seats.

There is some thought that $30 was just too high even though it's about the cost of taking the family to a matinee. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney does go the PVOD route on Soul that they try a more aggressive price point this time. But maybe it isn't the price?

Soul to me looks fantastic and could be another home run.  But I'm not sure the general public knows what it is at all.  If they are going to charge $20-$30 for it then they still need to advertise for it before hand like it is a major release.  If it just drops then very few people will pay for it.

So, I think @The def star just based off that tweet and converted the UK time to PST and EST, but that was for UK retailers only, not US. Don’t set your alarms unless you want to import one. :p

It wasn't just him.  There were some industry journalists that were speculating a midnight pst.  But the second tweet from XBOX that said wait for region specific times pretty much kills that notion.

That's quite possibly the worst time they could do it for me. I get up at 5:30 for work. I'm going to have to set an alarm for 1am and hope I can go back to sleep.

I'm going to need some confirmation before I set an alarm.  That would be 2AM for me.  However it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if that is the time.  I would be online hitting refresh and there would be many less people doing that in the middle of the night than there would be during the day.

And that’s the rub.  Xbox One S is getting poor looking and performing SKUs that either overshoot what the hardware is capable of, or just aren’t getting the needed optimization work to shine at whatever resolution and frame rate is targeted for it.  This has been happening since the X1X came out, and has gotten progressively worse.

There’s a marginal gap between the Xbox One S and the PS4.  Think about how much wider that gap is going to be with the Series S to whatever is above it.

It’s anyone’s guess how much that holds back developers’ plans versus them outright not giving a shit (like Crystal Dynamics most recently).  Or maybe Microsoft themselves pushes that along with a new S model mid generation.

Series S owners should really hope for a Switch successor that’s roughly as powerful.  Maybe that would encourage more optimization effort.

Sliding scales on PC won’t.  It didn’t alleviate the One S’s troubles.  Why would it salvage the Series S later on this gen?

I'm a simple caveman, but from what I have taken from people smarter than me is that comparisons between the one s vs x1x and the series S vs series x are not valid. The one s and x1x were not developed together. The series S was specifically designed to scale down from the series x. It should be much easier for developers to design for the series x and scale back to the series S.

I don't think Sony is in the financial position to eat that kind of loss per unit this gen. They might bite the bullet and do so anyway, but it's gonna HURT. That proprietary SSD can't be cheap.

Agreed. Microsoft is selling the series S at a big loss, but I think they are in better financial shape to take the loss.

  12. I think selling the ps5 for $500 is going to be at a loss for Sony. If they sell the digital version for $100 less it will be selling it for a huge loss. The drive costs about $40 and there are about 8 bucks in license fees. So they aren't saving 100 by removing the drive.

  13. Well the cost of that expansion HD made me choke.  I'll be waiting a while for that rather than picking up right away.  Hopefully 2nd parties come through on that.  Now that all the cards are on the table why do we have to wait till the 22nd to pre order?

And still begs the question, why have we seen Insomniacs not launch game multiple times, but not seen Spiderman Miles Morales at all?

I really feel for how close we are to launch we haven't seen much from either side.
