  1. So Cheeto wants to be able to give his SotU address and tell everyone that he made a bigly deal to reopen the government?
  2. Why are daddy and daddy fighting? Do I need to go live with Grandma now?
  3. I could be wrong, but I got the impression that in that scene, the kid underneath isn't really seeing it as roughhousing. To me it appeared more that the kid on top was bullying the one on bottom and the adults are excusing it with "boys will be boys". As to the ad itself, I do find it somewhat strange that a razor company is giving us moral advice, but I actually agree with the advice. And I also think that anything that can be done to start a discussion and change the culture for the better is a good thing. Again maybe I'm wrong, but It seems to me that if one also sees toxic masculinity in advertising then it just reinforces it in the society, at least in a minor way. I would bet that few people are going to examine their whole life because of a commercial but again, anything that improves the culture is ok in my book.
  4. This thread has been quite the ride. Anger at kids to anger at adults to anger at Boyle to a discussion of Muslims to a discussion of atheism vs. agnosticism to a discussion of the origin of clothing. Goddamn, D1P, I need a drink.
  5. I've been playing a lot of Switch lately, namely Smash Bros and New Super Mario Bros. They're excellent games; I'm in a state of gaming nirvana!
  6. I'm flying right now and with TSA Pre made it through in Orlando earlier today in five minutes with no groping. Guess I'm not their type.
  7. Having never played any of these games on any platform I'm tempted by this. But even so, knowing that it's essentially a port that they're selling for $60 leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
  8. At first the durability of weapons really frustrated me, to the point of wanting to almost give up on the game. But having put over 100 hours into the game, it doesn't bother me in the slightest anymore. There are so many weapons lying around and you can expand your weapon slots so greatly that it really isn't an issue. But I get what everyone is upset about. It's a crappy feeling to finally get an awesome weapon and then have it break after two fights. Having never really played any other Zelda game, the other differences didn't really bother me so much. Could that be the difference, perhaps? Those who have played previous Zelda games were somewhat disappointed in the changes and those of us who had never played the other games had no point of reference?
  9. Well, technically it's not free, you know, because I actually have to spend a couple seconds pressing the button. So really, it's costing me life.
  10. My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary and they wanted to celebrate with the whole family on a cruise, so everyone (parents, me, two sisters, and one sister's husband) is going to the Bahamas on Friday. To be honest I never expected to go on a cruise until I was in my 60s or later but since it's what they wanted to do, of course I'm game for hanging out in the Caribbean in January (average temps of 76 F) rather than Idaho (average temp of 30 F ). Anyway, we'll be going to the Bahamas, St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands) and St. Martin (Netherlands/France) over the course of a week. We'll be going on Princess, launching from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. We stop at all of the above destinations for a day (with a day at sea in between each port of call) and have little excursions (touring the islands and snorkeling, mostly) before returning to Florida. The closer it gets the more excited I am about it, but also a bit nervous since I have no idea what to expect. Have any of you ever been on a cruise? If so, what was your experience? Were there any essential items you forgot and wish you had packed? Or things that you found indispensable? Any general recommendations for being on a cruise (things to avoid, definitely do, etc.)? Any Princess-specific recommendations? Thanks all!
  11. I managed to complete my goal on Goodreads of 35 books for the year, finishing the last one close to midnight on Dec. 31. For 2019 I think I'm going to set my sights much lower--maybe around 12 books for the year. I love reading and I'm glad that I was able to do so much of it this year, but at times I also felt like I was actually under (admittedly self-inflicted) pressure to meet my goal, rather than just reading for the fun of it. With the book club I'm in I'll easily reach my 12 book goal (1 per month) and then anything beyond that is gravy. I think my top 5 books I read in 2018 were, in no particular order: 1. Fantasyland - How America Went Haywire by Kurt Andersen (recommended by @SFLUFAN - thanks again!) 2. Landfalls by Naomi J. Williams 3. The Emperor of All Maladies - A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee 4. Educated by Tara Westover 5. The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck I'm going to start 2019 off by reading one of these three books that I've bought but haven't gotten to yet: 1. At the Existentialist Cafe: Freedom, Being, and Apricot Cocktails by Sarah Bakewell 2. Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari 3. A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson How about you all? Do you have a top 5 for 2018?
  12. Happy Belated @best3444 ! I hope that your day ended up being awesome!

  14. I certainly did! Haven't had a chance to try it out yet but am hoping to soon. It looks like great fun!
  15. As ridiculous as it is that Trump is even on that list at all, it pleases me to know that it probably galls the shit out of Trump that Obama is above him. And that's enough for me.
  16. I treated myself to Mario Party, Smash Bros, and new Joy Cons because I figured we'd probably have a game night as a family over the holidays. I was right, and it was a sound investment; we had a blast.
  17. If this has already been posted I'll lock this but I didn't see it anywhere. Ubisoft is having some huge sales on their games in the eShop. A few examples: Mario + Rabbids - $19.79 (down from $59.99) South Park: The Fractured But Whole - $23.99 (down from $59.99) Rayman: Legends - $15.99 (down from $39.99) The full list is here: https://www.nintendo.com/games/sales-and-deals It goes until December 31 so still another couple days.
