  1. In a game like this, never, ever use one save file. Get the biggest rotation of save files they'll let you have. (On PC, I don't think there was any limit, so I have... a lot of saves!) If there is anything you should save scum, it's making sure you get all the party members in act 1. Dark Urge is the best. Custom character but fully integrated into the plot. Play to "resist" if you want to be a good guy. It's what I did and it has a very satisfying conclusion to that story.
  2. Linux is fantastic and if this were a sane world, more games would target it instead of relying on Valves nearly magical work with Proton. Windows isn't the target because it's a good OS. It's the target because it's what most people have.
  3. I think for many people the main value proposition of a gaming PC is much better graphics than console. But to get those much better graphics, you do have to pay for upper tier. 4k is a bit much, but 3k isn't crazy if you're buying everything from scratch. Consoles don't have to work as hard because developers can optimize for that fixed hardware so you need a fair amount of muscle to make a very big difference on PC. And if you're merely going to match, you might as well get a console. Even both is probably still cheaper. There are other value propositions for PC of course, like being able to run your ancient games without purchasing a remake or hoping for BC, better mod support, etc. But I think the main one of interest to people who otherwise typically game on consoles is much better graphics and that does require substantial buy in.
  4. It's up to 4-player coop. People can drop into your game and you can assign them control of companions. Or if you start a coop campaign together, you all can create your own custom characters.
  5. You don't just have to play it at the same time, you can play coop! BG3 is famously the most horny RPG in the world. Of course you can have sex with her later on! Shadowheart is a slower burn to that than some of the other characters though.
  6. Pretty cool! I can't back this up, but I suspect our DNA holds of a lot of historical strategies that don't typically manifest but allow for very fast adaptation of the population because it's kind of already there.
  7. "Computer Role Playing Game," a genre named due to the fact that RPGs released for PC (back in the day) tended to a have a different style than RPGs released for consoles (e.g., JRGPs). Generally means you control a party or character that you can deeply customize to your play style, usually with turn-based or semi-turn based combat in an open environment (compared to lined up in old console JRPGs) with very non-linear stories that branch from your narrative decisions in dialog (or otherwise). Examples: All BG games Original Fallout 1/2 Dragon Age Origins (not as much the sequels) KOTOR Shadowrun games Wasteland 1/2 Pillars of Eternity games Divinity Original Sin games (obviously -- these were Larian's previous games)
  8. I dunno. Sometimes I wonder if games feel "harder' when we're older just because when we were young we didn't pay too much attention to how many times we would die and just immediately retry
  9. If you’re where I think, then unless you avoid that fight by talking your way out that’s probably too high level for 3. You can see the levels of enemies. If they’re much higher you might want to consider coming back later.
  10. I think normal is likely to be difficult at times (not all the time) if you don't know dnd all that well. But you can start there and if you run into such a fight, don't feel bad just dropping it down a level.
  11. Possibly... I was kinda waiting for the 5000 series, but if that's still a ways off I might just do it for this.
  12. I see what you're saying, although I'm not sure I'd say she sidelined herself. So I agree "sidelined" in terms of the game interactions with her, but not sidelined within the story.

  14. It seems like it ought to be easy. Something I appreciate about the new games, especially TotK, is just how awesome Zelda is. Link saves her in the end, but she goes way above and beyond to save him and everyone else in kind. She's powerful, important, and has significant agency. It's what makes the final moments of the game hit so hard for me and it's probably one of my favorite video game endings for emotional impact, even though it's simultaneously a very simple story with clear good and evil. So given all that, a Zelda focused game seems like it ought to be easy.
  15. No idea! But especially in rogue likes I strongly suspect the hardest challenges are almost never beat by devs, but do get beat by the community. The nice thing about roguelikes is they often have a good way to slide the challenge curve up quite far.
  16. That sucks. We need security AI that watches your system and tells you "YOU ARE MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE STOP NOW"
  17. And similarly, the chef can decide if they don't want to make that anymore even if they potentially lose your business. If a dev chooses to make something in the same style as something old, that's fine. But insisting that dev only regurgitate what's done is unhealthy for the industry. The number one thing gamers should push for is letting developers make the games they want to make.
  18. Tears of the Kingdom is pretty much the perfect version. There’s no need to just repeat it over and over. They should do something new. But I’m guessing they don’t mean returning to OoT style either for those of you pining for that, and I don’t think they should either.
