  1. I loved trying to stealth through the end. There was one part with a billion infected that I managed to stealth completely through on my first playthrough. Never has not killing a bunch of infected felt so badass.
  2. I love getting to places that I can just explore and rummage. I get to try to piece together what happened in this neighborhood, on this block, and there's a lot of good stuff to find within all these areas that it has that "wide-linear" feel: the game is certainly linear, but there are opportunities to branch out and explore large areas. The university was one of my favorite places due to how large it was. I also am a big fan of the notes from Ish. Piecing together that story was really freaking sad, but they made this person come alive even though you never encounter him.

  5. This. I like it way better than the old one.
  6. The best term is "wide linear." You're not a complete open-world like Horizon or Zelda or GTA, so there's still a more focused thrust to the game, but it does make room for exploration. The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne are examples as well as both allowed some exploration in wider areas to explore and pick up treasures/items, and in Bloodborne's case, allowed you to do side missions and optional bosses. God of War, likely with the increased power of the PS4 relative to the PS3, was able to take it to another level with more of a sandbox approach and a bigger world to navigate, but the areas were still more focused in level design. This thread is from 2013 but does a decent job separating linear, wide-linear and open-world, I think.
  7. Yup, there are some games that I can do everything and still want to replay it just because it's fun and a great experience. GOW is almost one of them just because I haven't gotten all artifacts/ravens yet (I'll likely do those in a future playthrough as I'm progressing). After doing the biggest side missions, it feels weird to go after Odin's ravens.

  10. I vastly prefer it. Like so so much, I've been hoping for this since last year.
  11. I mentioned that to some people on Discord. I REALLY liked that discussion thread; that started in the summer and lasted through much of the fall for TNG (and then into DS9). I wish I would have saved the thread just because it was a lot of fun.
  12. I am 100% for the consolidated boards. The individual ones looked like they moved too slowly, whereas a consolidated one was great to easily keep track of news for all consoles + PC. Even as someone who doesn't own a One, I enjoyed posting news about the One and prefer the way it is now.

  14. I'll start with this viral ad which is REALLY well edited. Here's the story: MJ Hegar, an Air Force combat veteran who lives in Round Rock, Texas, is running for Congress. In a now-viral ad, she used the motif of doors to explain why she is running for office on behalf of the Democratic party. Hegar said that growing up as the daughter of a single mom in Texas, following her dream of being a pilot meant "opening, pushing, and, sometimes, kicking through every door." After years of training, Hegar became a pilot and eventually served three tours in Afghanistan with the Air Force before getting into a crash, which earned her a Purple Heart. Following the crash, she was injured and couldn't fly anymore. Hegar claims that she was "barred" from her next career choice because of her gender. She sued the Pentagon over not only the job she was barred from, but also the ban on women serving in ground combat jobs — and she won. But it wasn't easy. During the lawsuit, Hegar lobbied Congress, but she said people were hesitant to hear from her because she hadn't donated money. After her Congressman John Carter, a Tea Party Republican, refused to meet with her, Hegar decided to run for office. She's running against the guy who didn't meet with her.

  16. This is a good rundown for people who have never played a game and the similarity/differences between Yakuza and GTA.
  17. http://www.newsweek.com/body-positivity-promotes-unhealthy-habits-study-says-992829 This has been brought up on the board many times IIRC. Now a study suggests that the concerns about it are correct.
  18. Some of them seem more like a repackaging. Some, like Yakuza 0, are getting a deep discount. I may have to bite this summer.

  20. YO, I was trying to get in touch with you about the board reboot. Glad to see you back.
