A woman getting off Boston's Orange Line last week fell and was trapped between the subway platform and the train until her fellow passengers were able to free her.

Transit police say the woman stepped into a 5-inch gap as she was getting off the train at the Massachusetts Avenue station on Friday afternoon during rush hour.

Security video from the platform shows a crowd of commuters start to push on the train and rock it enough to pull the woman to safety.

After the woman was freed, Polanco stayed to help and talked with her.

She had a bad cut on her left thigh; police said it was deep enough to expose the bone.

Polanco said the woman was clearly in a lot of pain, but she didn't want anyone to call an ambulance because she said she couldn't afford it.

"She made it a point to say 'you don't understand, I have terrible insurance,'" Polanco said. "Everyone just kept saying don't worry about that, you need medical help."

Emergency Medical Technicians arrived in 5 or 10 minutes Polanco said, and the woman did agree to go with them.

The EMTs bandaged her leg and then took her away in a wheelchair.

    Happy July 4th.

Congrats Triage! The only two people I've personally known who slipped into a coma was my dad at the end of his battle with brain cancer and Aunt who had Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease that put her in a coma before she passed away.

She only lasted a few weeks after they diagnosed her.

My aunt also had Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease. In fact, I was playing GW2 with @SFLUFAN and a few others when my mom phoned to tell me about the diagnosis, which for some reason I remember vividly. She ended up passing away around a month later. By the time she was diagnosed she was already losing memories and was often confused, and she quickly deteriorated.

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — As a meeting last August in the Oval Office to discuss sanctions on Venezuela was concluding, President Donald Trump turned to his top aides and asked an unsettling question: With a fast unraveling Venezuela threatening regional security, why can’t the U.S. just simply invade the troubled country?

The suggestion stunned those present at the meeting, including U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and national security adviser H.R. McMaster, both of whom have since left the administration. This account of the previously undisclosed conversation comes from a senior administration official familiar with what was said.

But shortly afterward, he raised the issue with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, according to the U.S. official. Two high-ranking Colombian officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid antagonizing Trump confirmed the report.

Then in September, on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, Trump discussed it again, this time at greater length, in a private dinner with leaders from four Latin American allies that included Santos, the same three people said and Politico reported in February.

The U.S. official said Trump was specifically briefed not to raise the issue and told it wouldn’t play well, but the first thing the president said at the dinner was, “My staff told me not to say this.” Trump then went around asking each leader if they were sure they didn’t want a military solution, according to the official, who added that each leader told Trump in clear terms they were sure.

The Liberals will form a coalition with the NDP.

If they can form a majority by doing so, then yes I agree. But in Canada you only need around 36-40% of the vote to form a majority because of vote splitting.

However, a Liberal-NDP coalition (or co-operation) would be great, as many of Canada's best programs have come about because of such agreements in the past.

  5. I remember some people here played this quite a bit in the past. It was on sale for 55% off last week so I picked it up. I played for a few hours to get the feel of it, and I think I like it. I already have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, and I have ordered a Thrustmaster t16000m to go along with it. I will use the t16000m as my left joystick, and the 3D Pro as my right. I think I'll enjoy this better than a HOTAS since I can use the left joystick for 6dof  thrust and my right joystick for 6dof pitch/yaw/roll.

So far I've just bummed around and explored a system or two and shot some bounty. The biggest hurdle so far seems to be just figuring out where to go. Apparently I was fined 100 credits for firing within range of a station...but I don't know where to pay this fine, and the game doesn't say. Stuff like that. It's also hard to keep track of where stars are and to keep things pinned in the radar/compass. For instance, if I have a star locked that I want to jump to, do I really need to just keep rotating until I see it on my view, or is there a way to tell using the compass/radar where it is in relation to my current heading?

Any other useful tips are appreciated!

  6. Here's the thing: There's spending money to be able to defend yourself, and there's spending enough money to be able to project your imperial power over the world. Most other countries don't need to spend that kind of money. Now, some countries in Europe should probably start beefing up their militaries at this point to counter Russian ambition, but some others probably don't need to. Even if NATO countries all boosted their spending to an arbitrary % amount of their GDPs, Trump would then flip to comparing the absolute numbers and complain that the Netherlands is only spending .5% as much as the US.

  7. Apparently Trump is mad that Americans buy more European cars than vice versa. Um, maybe it's because American cars suck if you don't want a vehicle that's twelve yards long and two lanes wide? The only American cars that do well in Europe are the smaller Ford vehicles like Fiesta and Focus that were actually designed for Europe (and then were brought over to the US). American cars have been inferior to Asian and European vehicles for decades (the mass-produced ones).
